I am new. New too the site and new to learning about God. I got some advice on how to make a relationship with Him and I tried talking to Him last night before bed. I felt comfortable talking and while I wasn't talking out loud, I was talking to Him silently. My eyes were closed and then the next thing I know I see what looks to be an eye. It was golden and shined bright. I don't know if that was God trying to tell me or talk to me about something. Is there any significance between talking to God and seeing this golden eye? I don't mean to sound weird but that's never happened to me before and I just don't know because I'm so new to this. Does anyone know what this strange thing that happened to me could've been? Please share if you know anything!! Thanks everyone!

The first place a new believer needs to go to learn about Jesus/God... is the bible. You read the bible and ask <by prayer> that your spiritual eyes be opened to understand the scriptures. It is dangerous to just <imagine> God in your mind apart from the scriptures. The bible reveals who God is and how to have a relationship with him... not merely talking in your mind and having an "experience".

When I was First born again I was impressed upon by the Holy Spirit to read the Bible. I started with the NT and read all the way through. I wanted desperately to hear a word from God but what I found was that I was often hearing God's words in my head, the written words that I had been reading.

Later when I knew that voice of God's written word as well as I knew the voice of my best friend, I began to hear God's voice tell me other things. This new voice of God would sound just like his written word and always agree with his written word. He would even give me chapter and verse if I asked for clarification on something.

Get the written word first, make sure everything you accept agrees with that written word. Sometimes Satan will pretend to be God but what he tells you won't agree with the written word.

Courtney47....No Christian has GOD all figured out. God speaks through His WORD (Bible), through praises (HE inhabits the praises of His people), through songs, sermons, other people, nature, dreams, healings, and the list goes on. The Holy Spirit is Supernatural, meaning His super touching our Natural. I have actually heard an audible voice before..and followed it and GOD met my need through obedience. I have also sensed GOD and the Holy Spirit's presence while praying privately, or while singing in a choir, or handing out a hot lunch at a Food Kitchen....so I do not doubt that you sensed something. Signs and Wonders are known to follow those who utilize the Holy spirit. I would also advise you to be careful that satan is not trying to mimic..and that comes through discernment...a spiritual gift listed in 1 Corinthians chapter 12. Get ready for daily surprises..because knowing JESUS is anything but boring!!! God bless you!

I agree with the posters above.

But I am a little concerned about the golden eye. Now it may just be a personal vision. But no where in Scripture is God mentioned as an eye, although his eyes are certainly on us.

An eye figures prominently in Egyptian mythology as the "Eye of Horus."

There is also a golden eye called Hiranyanetra in Hindu mythology that is a demon.

I think you need to renounce this eye, and instead, focus on reading the Bible. Start in the New Testament, read the Psalms and the narratives in the Old Testament.

God will lead you into the truth of knowing who he is.

God bless and welcome to CC.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the eye thing unless it happens again, then you may want to rebuke it in the name of Jesus. God won't play games with you or try to frighten you. I think God would make sure you knew it was him.

Are your eyes blue? Sometimes when we close our eyes after seeing something very bright, (in my case, I see the light bulb when turning off my end-table lamp),I see an after-color of my real eyes. Mine are brown, (closer to the yellow family of colors), so I see blue. Blue is the contrasting color for brown. So, if you're seeing yellow, it's likely you were looking at your own eye. Next time that happens, see if you can see any speckles in your eyes. Some blue eyed people have specks of brown in them. If you can, then open then and look for them in the same spot in the mirror. (Brown eyes. If we have specks, it's brown on brown so we can't see them. lol)

It' not that freaky, but it's not God either.

pwrnJC - Thank you for letting me understand about how God speaks. One question though...The songs, sermons, other people, nature, dreams, healings and so on - Will I understand more about what you mean by reading the bible? Should I be listening to these songs and sermons? Thanks for the help!!

It is only 'dangerous" if what you see does not line up with GOD's Word. GOD does give us dreams and visions...but satan enjoys dangling false info, as he is a mimic. How do you know if what you envision or see is from GOD>? It's called Discernment..a spiritual giff that you may seek or already have. There would be absolutely NO confusion, fear, or question that GOD is behind it within your spirit. Notice how Joseph was the man GOD used to interpret dreams..A Christian, deep inside his own mind, with the Holy Spirit's help, can deceifer his own dreams. I would also advise to NOT depend on the internet as your ANSWER...you have a loving heavenly FAther who can help with such things. If you cast your dream into cyber space, you can get 100's of different interpretations...leaving it as conjecture and confusion..Confusion does NOT come from GOD. Perhaps, if you honestly do not know about your dream(s), a trusted pastor, or holy spirit filled friend could pray with you on this matter. In the long run, if the dream 'bothers" you...and messes up your relationship with JESUS...leave it as satan trying to play tricks on you.

Personally, I think you should start with the gospels. If you just want to read one of them then read John. Then go to the epistles, letters, to the churches. Until that is finished the only OT I would read would be in Proverbs and Psalms. The main thing though is to be lead of the Spirit and read anything that you think he is leading you to.

Don't be afraid to read from several translations at once concerning the same passages. It's more important to understand what you are reading than to read a lot. Don't be afraid to ask questions but also know that all answers you hear might not be 100% correct. God's Spirit will lead you into all truth. All you have to do is to seek and knock and He will open the door.

The Gospels will show you the character of God and his love for us. Jesus said that if you had seen him ,you had seen the Father. Not everything you read in the OT can be applied to us today because we now live under the new covenant of grace instead of the covenant of law.

Don't get overwhelmed and for now just keep things simple. Learn who Jesus is through the Gospels. Develop a relationship with Jesus first and foremost. You can talk to him anytime and all the time. As you learn the character of Jesus through his word and see how he treats us, you won't be easily deceived by Satan. The most important things you need to understand is Who Jesus is and who you are because of what Jesus has done for you.

I don't think God would send you an eyeball in a vision/ dream as a symbol of who it's from.
