Tried many times to bring my dad to know christ even asked my church pastor to visit him. Well, so far not successful. i'll keep praying. He had brought private christian burial ground for himself and mum recently.

That's good that you looked for help. I'll pray for him as well if you want. And that is interesting...

What are some way(s) to help your family members come to Christ? Any advice or examples that you find of help?

My dad was - likely still is we don't talk - an atheist. My mom is a Buddhist, I guess? I dunno something with reincarnation, she's an odd lady. My sister's agnostic. My step-sister and step-brother are Christian I think. Not totally sure about them.

My mom raised me pretty well, actually.

Interesting mix of religions you have, and are you a christian? I'm assuming so.

Yeah my family was super open about their beliefs, along with others. When I was younger my mom and step-dad took me to a Universalist Unitarian "church" where the youth groups learn about a bunch of different religions so you're free to chose your own. Lots of Christians went there, but also lots of other beliefs and many atheists. But no, since you ask I'm not a Christian.

I was born to two addict parents, and faced tremendous abuse for my entire childhood from both parents. When I was 3 my mother had an amazing conversion experience. We went to church everytime the doors were opened when I was young, but my mother was very critical of my brothers and me. I was there all the time, but I meet once heard the gospel. I found myself in some bad situations and my mom began distancing herself from the church. It wasn't long before she completely rejected the church and morality. She walked away and took my family with her. I kept going to church to escape my father. When I was 13 life came crashing in on me. I attempted suicide and The Lord met me miraculously that night. I threw myself into Jesus and I went to every service I could find. My mom got very angry at me and told me it was just a faze. She told me I was crazy. She hated my church. She resented that I had found safe people that I trusted more than her. Over my teenage yrs she really came after me. I escaped as soon as I could. I moved 500 miles away when I was 17.
Two yrs ago my mom began returning to The Lord. Six months so my father died. He never outright accepted The Lord. I did get to talk and pray with him on his deathbed, but he was unable to speak. One month after my dad died, my mom was disguised with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
God is good. He has been my fortress. I really should be dead or completely nuts. But God found me and broke through and I haven't turned back in almost 15 yrs.

I'm kind of in between. My father has his own beliefs.

Such as the prophesy in the Bible isn't true and is just hallucinations and dreams. Also that God wouldn't send anyone to hell. Just by what I've heard he believes, I wouldn't consider him a Christian. I don't know too much about what my mother believes. They got divorced when I was 15 or so.

My story is a long one, I might post it sometime somewhere on this forum.

the basic seminars from www.embassyinstitue.org help!

God was my Father growing up without a father and a non-christian family.

I went to Catholic church, heard the message, believed, confessed my sins to priest, had communion, and suddenly ALL I wanted to do was read my bible (at 10 years old) because I wanted to know what God wanted. I read and applied in my life. No one in my family knew I had all this because I had read in Matthew for my praying to be secret... so I had a secret relationship with God. But now, it's all I can trust in... no one can ever separate me from my Father :)

I think the hardest thing is not having guidance when you have questions, etc. I would have loved to have had the Basic Seminars back then... it's powerful teachings.

That is good that you found such a strong interest in God at such a young age and still are continuing such a strong faith now. Thanks for the website link.

I went to Catholic school for 12 years, so did my brother. My parents went to Catholic church every Saturday or Sunday. My parents are 85 years old and go to church every week and still are not saved. It is a tradition. In fact, I would say my Mom is a God hater. I'm 55 years old and was saved 9 years ago in a non-denominational church. After learning that I was not to worship Mary, pray to dead people, confess to a man and call him Father, baptize my infant children, etc., etc., etc., I could not understand how so many so called intelligent people can be so deceived.

I have tried on many occasions to try to help them see the truth but they are not having any of it. My brother, who is now a Pentecostal thanks to his wife, bought her a bible and she told him that she did not believe in the bible. Why go to church then? She said she has never read the bible, will not read the bible because it was written by too many people and she doesn't believe the bible. She's been in church for 80 some years!

She told me that I should but some color on my hair than is turning white ( I like it ) so I read her this verse: Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life. Prov. 16:31. She said: How does He know? Does he own a beauty salon? They are absolutely clueless and it breaks my heart.

I'm so happy you got saved and you understand now. You and your other family members will be in my prayers. Never lose hope that God will lead them the right way, I doubt you would though :) Lovely story my friend. Keep on doing God's will and being a strong christian. Amen to you sister!

How do you feel living in a non-christian home?
How do you handle it?
What are some verses that help you that relate to these questions?
Ex:
Psalms 55:22
Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Hi! Storm Chaser Gal

I too come from a non Christian home.
I was blessed by God to know Lord Jesus Christ when I was 17.
I had some problems in my life and those problems brought me to Christ. Some Pentecostal people came for my help , they introduced me to Jesus Christ.

I had my personal experience of knowing the Lord when I once prayed wholeheartedly with all my soul and I told Him if He really was a living God who answers prayers ,please speak to me. (I learnt from the believers that He is a living God and He answers prayers. I knew very less about Christ during those days.Someone gave me a NT book and I would read that occasionally .)

After my prayer as I was relaxing ;just few seconds later I heard His voice . I was surprised . I didn't knew I would get an answer so soon.He spoke to me about my problem and gave me directions. I believed in Him and Since then I am His and He is mine. People change ,time changes , we change But He remains the same.

I , my brother and my mother believe in the Lord, but my father is an atheist.

Coping with the unfavorable and displeasing circumstances that are present in a non christian home, I can just say that I live with HOPE. He can change everything .He will fix every thing in the end.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I agree 100%. Having hope can make things so much easier to work with. And it also gives the insight of what to do to maybe help your father. I am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Been busy. God bless you!

It's hard, my family would jump all over any mistake I made as an excuse to criticise your faith (I mean things such as the car breaking down!!!!). I mean what sort of Christian allows the car to break down. :) Full scale rows with my Father over getting baptised and leading my younger sister to the Lord (brain washing!!).
But recently I prayed for him and God healed him. He's reading a Christian book....so be encouraged, we're in this for the long run ;)
