Interesting question - does life begin at conception? It's had me thinking, that's for sure.

I'm completely infertile, so I have to approach my answer to the question based on the fact that it is completely impossible for me to reproduce, and hence, I have no emotions tied up in it. Biologically, once the sperm and ovum fuse, a lot of complex interactions begin to take place as DNA is combined and coded and the initial cell begins to copy and divide. Is that life? I don't know.

Buddhists believe that "life" begins 49 days after conception and they say this is when the soul is imbued into the fetus. Oddly enough, this is also the same period of time that the fetus's brain has developed to the point where the thalamus and pineal glands are present, and many cultures revere the pineal gland as the "seat of the soul". So, is life at conception, or is life when the soul is present?

I'm going to have to think on this more.

I believe that everyone believes that life begins at conception, the problem is that the pro-choice or pro-abortion crowd want to add more criteria of what they believe human life is. God bless. But yes, life begins at conception.

The criteria from false religions are rarely helpful in discerning the truth. If God says that he knows us before we are knit in our mother's womb, I would think that implies that our soul is with us from conception.

I don't need a debate about what you consider a "false religion". I merely stated what others believe. I found my way to Christianity through Buddhist thought, and regardless of how unholy you think it may be, there are a LOT of very good ideas and thoughts in Buddhism. Please don't be so one-dimensional.

Gee wouldn't everyone get upset if they discovered I've read the Qu'ran and the Hadiths associated with it also. One-dimensionality means you miss a LOT. The world is bigger than that.

It may surprise you that I've read quite a bit about other religions as well, but I wouldn't use their doctrine to discern truth. Why muddle the truth by adding stuff from other religions that may or may not be true? Let's stick to what the Bible says. Satan is the author of confusion, so by adding tidbits from false religions, we obfuscate the truth -- it's just not helpful in this discussion, IMHO.

No comment because I have nothing polite to say in response. Thank you for your thoughts on the matter.
