Most people don’t like confrontation. If you do, you are in the minority. Many are petrified of it and tell themselves that it’s just too hard. So, when faced with a difficult situation or person, they avoid it and instead run away…for as long as possible.
People run from all kinds of things—like something new, or change in general. They run from their past. And many people in our society run away from responsibility. But the problem with running away from something is that you stay stuck. You don’t make any progress.
We need to be people who will no longer run away from difficult situations because God doesn’t want us to be afraid. He wants us to be bold, courageous, and to know we can handle anything that comes our way!
You can confront your problem. Or you can choose to run away from it. But if you run, the Bible is pretty clear as to what happens to people who run away from what God has called them to do...
They end up in the wilderness...

are you telling this to me? I think you are and i really appreciate it. You are right we should not run away from our problems or people. It is my weakness. Everyone in my office knows that iam that person. Sometimes you know something is wrong but takes a lot of courage, encouragement and time to change. In this case, i don't want to 'fight' with URGLY because i felt that no point fighting let him say whatever he wants to say anyway, i don't know him in person and he won't be rewarded if he wins an argument here.

But what you said is true and takes time for me to swwallow it.

Becky:
This is so very true, and there are many being taught that in the last days when the church is being pursicuted that the church will have to go underground (into hiding) in order to have fellowship.

What horrible lies that are being taught.

More than once our LORD has told us that we are a light unto the world, and it is not to be hid but to be place where all can see it.

Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV)
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Luke 8:16 (KJV)
16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

Luke 11:33 (KJV)
33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

How blind must a person be to not see what our LORD has taught, when he has repeated himself though his written word three times, but yet people do not see.

I have listened to preachers praising those in China for going into hiding. How can they do this and sleep at night?

Becky, I pray the LORD keeps your heart set upon him always, that you may always come boldly before his throne. Taking a bold stance for righteousness, in this wicked world.

Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Philippians 4:7 (KJV)
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I was a person who used to run away from any problems or confrontations because
1. I could not handle them emotionally
2. I did not want to hurt others
3. More often I tend to say the wrong things when emotionally affected and I have to go into my corner and cry out to God

I prayed and handed it over to God and I asked Him to make me bold and couraeous but with wisdom and love.
My prayers were answered. Since then I have had situations in my life where I had to speak up
and some things have turned out well and some not but in my godly conscience I had done right.
I no longer have fear but I now have freedom.
Good post!!

The one thing that has always kept me going was something my dad told me when I was about 9, he said "God will never give you more than you can handle".

You may think at 18 I have not had a lot of life experience, but there are times I really wanted to give up,. or hide, or not face things, but I never quit. Our family has faced tragedy with the loss of my dad. I put my mother through living hell for 6 months after that, until with my grandfathers influence, I started to help her instead of challenge her.
I cannot tell you how many nights after being in school all day long, going to football practice, then coming home at 6 at night, helping my little brother with homework because my mom got called in to do a surgery, and did not get my homework done and in bed till after midnight.
Our family went through a stalker, which they never caught, and the only ones aware of it were my mom, sister and I, we had to hold it in, put on a happy face, and hide it from the younger siblings, telling them the reason we got cameras outside the house and an alarm system is because we live so far out in the Country. All the time worrying that someone would come in and hurt my mother, or try and grab one of my siblings.
At the same time as all of this was going on, and us moving to a new house, I was Quarterback for my football team and we were 2 games away from playing for the State title. (we did win it)

I survived, I climbed the mountains, I was knocked down a few times but never gave up. I felt like in confession at Church many times saying to the Priest, "please tell God I think I got enough to handle now, he does not have to give me any more".

God will help you, sometimes I think the things we have to face are little tests, to see how we can handle it, so we give up on God and not face it?

I took the Sword and faced the dragon, was not easy, but I did handle the challenges God gave me.

You can too, it's within you, you also have the power.

It takes a lot of being with the Lord to confront well.

I couldn’t for years because I didn’t have faith in how God created me, so I thought I had no right to what I saw as truth. I didn’t have faith in the Lord to care for me. I didn’t have love and respect for other people. I didn’t have self control so I gave in to anger.

It depends by what means though. This is important. Jesus came not to raise a voice or lift a hand.

For He must practice what He preaches to accomplish completion.

Yes David was instructed to hide from Saul, as Saul wanted to kill him. But is was Sauls son Jonathan who told David to hide.

So we ask why did Saul want to kill him.

Lets look at the passage that gives us the reason.

1 Samuel 18:1-11 (KJV)
1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.
3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5 And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
6 And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
7 And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.
8 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
10 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.
11 And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

In Verse 8, we see Saul was jealous, because of what the woman were saying while dancing and singing after David returned from battle.

1 Samuel 19:1-5 (KJV)
1 And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
2 But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:
3 And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.
4 And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:
5 For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

1 Samuel 19:8-10 (KJV)
8 And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.
9 And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.
10 And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

It was not because of his faith that Saul wanted to kill him. It was out of jealousy. So David hid from Saul so he could not follow through in his rage.

Every time David went to battle against the Philistines he slew them with a great slaughter. This was something Saul could not do. So he became jealous.

David never hid his faith from Saul or the people.
We see that Saul was afraid of David because of his relationship with God.

1 Samuel 18:12-15 (KJV)
12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13 Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14 And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
15 Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

Sarah_D, I hope this helped to bring you a better understanding of why David hid from Saul.

May the Love of our LORD and Saviour be with you always.
