MadParrotWoman obviously has an African Grey Parrot. I have a Moluccan Cockatoo. She was trained like a cat, and when I'm home she's free to roam the neighborhood, tree to tree. Altho lately she's gotten fat and lazy like me and doesn't venture out as much. She loves to scream at the sunset from the treetops, then makes her way into the house (I always leave a door open for her). People are amazed that she returns, even her vet (an avian specialist) says in his 40 years of doctoring he's seen plenty of people try but no one succeed at such training until I and Sidney came along. It's always a joy to watch her fly back in, then take a lap and say 'scratch my head'. She's my fid - feathered kid. More a part of the family than even I am at this point :)

What kinds of animals do you have? Do they have any special abilities, other than melting your heart?

Hey, me, too! My cat is 18 y/o and she sleeps like 22 1/2 hours a day. But she's still a cutie!

I also have a 3 y/o dog (English Shepherd) who is just a bundle of energy!

our cat sleeps that much, too.

i had a guinea pig as a child that would come to me when i called it. we used to let him run free in the yard while my brother & sister and i were playing, so i kept an eye on him, but didn't fence or cage him. his name was Chip.

Chip met my sister's guinea pig Sandy, fell in love and had children, but they weren't as faithful. so we made a ring of fence we could move around the yard then, to let them get some outside time with us kids.

:)

that's really awesome to hear about your fid, Ricky !

might be part of it hah!
my cat Nebula just turned 21 this year. she sleeps quite a bit

she's also still kittenish - and i'm sure that helps. sometimes plays with toys and constantly with the window blinds, and even plays pranks on our other cats.

but love plays such a big part - about 5-6 years ago she started getting arthritic and couldn't jump onto the furniture anymore. sat under a table sulking for long weeks and months and i was sure she was giving up. we all spent as much time with her as we could, encouraging her and just loving on her. the effects of spending time with her and paying attention to her were really visible - she's lost her funk and gotten some jump back into those old achy paws :)

her special power appears to be opossum whispering. she's been hanging out with them and inviting them into our home her whole life.

LOL! (actually, physically laughing out loud)

Alli sits next to me, apparently disturbed and a bit disgusted, if a possum shows up.

maybe Nebula can give her lessons? :)

Currently I own only the spiders and ants that might be invading the house since Baby had to be put down in July - he was a four legged furry cat that demanded attention and acted like a dog being that I could let him outside and he would not run for the next county like most cats. I would clap my hands and say lets go back inside and he would come like a dog....maybe gripe about it but go inside anyway on his own steam.... I really miss him.

I want to take an Alaskan cruise next summer and then a road trip to pick up several states on my bucket list of seeing all 50 of them and it just is not practical for me to get another animal at this time. But my thoughts go to which one will I pick? Will it be a cat or a dog or a husband? I am thinking husband will come first.....then after that trip maybe we both can decide on what kind of critter returns to invade the space we will share.....lol

My daughters each have a cat, but we all love them. I was never a cat person until we had those two. They are extremely entertaining; the one "talks" whenever we talk to him. He is one of the female's kittens that we kept.

My choice would be horses, which I owned three of about 40 years ago. I sure miss that part of my life. There is just something so special about the bond between a horse and it's owner.

Humans are only here to service the needs of the feline in the house. They were recognized by the Egyptians as sacred and they have never forgotten it.

Our current critter is a tom cat that demands his say around the house. He talks to us all the time. Drinks water from the faucet. His brother had a bad heart and we lost him a few years ago.

Pets are great but it is so painful when they go. How much more the heart of God when a sinner dies unrepentant.

For the cause of Christ

I would stick with the cat or dog ... they're generally less trouble ;)

So we have 2 birds, a dog, a guinea pig, an opossum, spiders, ants, a possible husband, some horses, and the reminder that the oh-so-many cats are really here to rule over us. That's quite a zoo!

And oh yeah - TinTin and Arlene didn't respond, but we also have love birds!

:)

I'm a cat person too! I have a 10 year old cat who is obedient and quiet. She was not supposed to live for more than a year, because of a heart murmur, but she is careful, eats well and doesn't exert herself, and she fooled them all.

My daughter has a chocolate cocker spaniel. She is a cat person, but her husband is allergic to them, so she has this cute puppy instead.

Used to have a cat and she recently died and it broke my heart. She was so special, and of a weird (in a good sense) nature for a cat, so incredibly gentle and meek, and everyone noticed that. So now I'm waiting on God to lead me onto another kitty to adopt me.
I like birds too but if I had them I wouldnt put them into a cage, at least most of the time... I used to have a small turtle and I let it go because I dont like animals to be enslaved and confined.
I dont like dogs as pets.

That's right, I forgot the desert tortoise that we grew up with and my parents still have! That one will probably outlive all of us.

Two dogs for me. A black lab mix that can catch a Frisbee like a pro, she is pretty amazing to watch. We also have a Chesapeake Bay retriever that can call the Hawgs:) Well, she can only do the whoooooo part but, it is hilarious. She also thinks she can talk, we have some amazing conversations.
