Speaking with a friend a few days ago get me thinking about what the proper motive for obedience is. Certainly, children obey appropriately with different motives at different levels of development. However, there are obviously better motives than others. Here are some motives I've determined. These are not all completely appropriate, but they are honest nonetheless.

1. Fear
2. Good girl/boy mentality
3. Trying to impress man/make man proud
4. Trying to impress God/make God proud
5. Pride
6. Honor God
7. Honor man

This is not a comprehensive list by any means. Here's the question: what do you think is the correct/most righteous motive we should have for obedience. Can you add to the list?

I assume you are talking about obedience to God.... the correct/most righteous motivation is to obey out of LOVE.

This meditation of yours is worthy to be looked into with more depth. This would make a good bible study if you provided a character study. Then you could write a book titled, "The secret motives of the heart".
What say ye? Just a thought sis. :) take care.
