Well every church should have a Pastor (overseer leader). I ave never been to a house church but what would be the difference in being in a small congregation. I have however found that many people don't like the mega church as well as the other way around. However it does not matter as long as the bible is being taught.
I think the difference could be to get rid of tradition in worship, many of them coming from man's idea of how to worship and man interpreting scripture by one or two verses instead of seeing those verses as part of God's principles. It would be so nice to be able to start our walk with Christ cleansed of all but things directly of God, and a home church might be able to do that. A church organized around those traditions couldn't.

I'm a shut-in unable to get to church, much of my time is spent in His word. I'm excited about the home church idea. As I study I am pulled more and more from the tradition and man organization of our big churches.

I live in the Philippines and we have many church houses here. There are so many different religions in this country.
Our church looks like a big house. 3floors, 2 lounges, 1kids playroom, 3comfort rooms, 1library, 3classrooms(used for sunday school teachings and summer classes), 2kitchens, 1 big terrace, 1small pool for baptism ceremony and an organic garden in the 3rd floor.
Members are very close. After Sunday Service we eat lunch together. Sometimes we go to the mall, prayer mountain, out of town swimming etc.
On Wednesdays we have a 1 1/2 hour bible discussion. And free dinner after.
It's very cozy and sometimes they allow us to sleep in the couch located at the lounge.
House Church is a very good idea.
