Everybody is entitled to an opinion... and mine does line up with biblical principals of authority structure... but if you wanna let the inmates run the asylum go ahead.
I simply don't think the teen was being disrespectful. He saw an inconsistancy/hypocrisy and called it for what it was. He was being honest. I don't think kids should run things -- parents and elders have the authority -- but this kid was RIGHT. He called a spade, a spade. He should not be punished or castigated for it.

Maybe you should go back and read the op. She wasn't sneaking in chips and candy... she said they went to have a meal prior to the movie but were running late and she didn't get time to eat it. She hadn't eaten all day... she needed to eat a MEAL not junk food... the theater employees didn't say anything... the kid made the issue. So if after your review... you still think the kid was right... we'll just continue to be on opposite ends of the spectrum regarding who should be castigated and punished in this scenario.

I would say you're just fine. I wouldn't worry about bringing food into a theater :p.

Ok so today I went to go watch a movie and we were in a rush to get there cus it started at 2:30 and I didnt eat anything all day so we stopped to get something to eat but they took forever at the food place so we didnt even have time to really eat and I was really hungry so I ended up taking the food in the theater cus if I wait too long I start feeling sick and I didnt really want to get full off of junk food in the theater. I did buy a drink thou. Anyways I took the food in, no one say anything. Well my 12 yr old nephew starts in on me about being a Christian and how Im all trying to be Christ like and here I go sneaking in food. He starts calling me a lair and makes me feel so bad. So now Im wondering should I repent?? I know this sounds kind of off but I really feel bad cus Im suppost to be setting a good example... what do you think?
I haven't read anyone else response, just your question. I've been there done that. Not a movie theater but in other situations.
If your in doubt, then repent. easy as that. BUT after you repent if you are constantly dwelling on it, and it keeps you from moving forward, then that is condemnation..(not of GOD).
Conviction brings us closer to GOD and to do the right thing.
Condemnation will beat you down and cause you to feel too worthless to move forward with GOD.
Tell you nephew you made a mistake, but GOD uses mistakes to teach us to be better people.

so by doing this, you tie off the loose ends with him, and with GOD, and you should start feeling peace about the situation.
we aint human. But that's ok, JESUS loves us anyway.

I seriously want to hire you as a babysitter. That was awesome!

To the OP, it sounds like you have hypoglycemia if you get sick that way. I have it and I do get sick or tired if I don't eat like I should. Anyway, you did what you did for your health. If you feel guilty then repent. It's your conviction, but don't beat yourself up over this.
I'm not being hateful but if you think you should repent for that then anyone who has ever eaten theater food should as well. All that sugar, cholesterol and carbs you pay insane prices for isn't good for our bodies God gave us.
Relax, tell the kid you did it for your health which is exactly what you did.
Me and my husband are hypoglycemia. those peanut butter crackers you can carry in your purse do wonders when you have an attack.

I did end up repenting, even thou I take hard medication and get sick thats no excuse for me to break their rules and I should always be the good example for others, especially little kids. I just need to prepare better next time. But no Im not perfect and I made a mistake. But being a Christian means Im forgiven. Praise God for corrections cus I did feel it in my heart..

The moment you think your perfect, you have bigger problems than you think. I think you did good. understand the medication thing, but I bet if you look hard enough, you can find a way to avoid the same situation later down the road if you come across it again. And if the same thing happens again, repent again...LOL being a Christian can be work on our flesh making it do things it don't want to do.

*****claps hands***** good job!!!!

you guys arent going to like this .... :) i dont believe its right it sounds like everyone is trying to justify their actions.... truth is not what we make it. As christians we should hold ourselves to a higher standard.... cars are very expensive does that mean because we need one we could borrow it or steal it? just because this is a "man-made law" doesn't mean we should abide by it..... !
Corinthians 10:31 says
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Colossians 3:17 says: And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

lets get back to the days where we asked What would Jesus do.... by no means i am claiming to be perfect either....

I would just go to the movie theater and ask the management which they would rather you do:

1. not see the movie because you need to eat and don't want just junk food

or 2. bring in your unfinished lunch and ungrateful nephew to see the movie?

that way you won't be breaking any rules because the management is allowing an exception.

If my nephew confronted me about it. I would tell him: "you're right, lets not watch the movie and go to the park instead"

but then i'd rather go to the park in the first place, or the library or a museum or the aquarium or the beach or the lake or just about any place besides the movies because I like watching movies at home where you can eat whatever you like.

Though my kids and I did go with my sister in law and her daughter to see the Croods last week. It was a once every other month treat.

when my kids were younger I used to pack baby snacks, a bottle and baby food for them if they got hungry. I think your lunch would be along the same lines because it was things that you couldn't buy from the theater.

I admit I used to sneak candy and snacks into the movies when I was a teenager but now that I think about it and after reading this thread, I probably won't anymore because we DO have to hold ourselves to a higher standard and we should not justify breaking rules even if we don't agree with them.

So I think if the management doesn't mind: its ok to bring food that they don't sell at the movies theater (like sandwiches, baby food, etc) if you haven't eaten and that is the only time you can see the movie, because they would rather you buy a movie ticket and get that revenue. However, you shouldn't sneak popcorn, candy, soda drinks, etc that are sold at the theater because it is against their rules and causes them to lose money.

In addition, I believe you should put all your trash in the trash can as you exit the movie theater. Instead of leaving it in the seats so someone else has to clean up after you.

I believe that is part of the reason there is a NO OUTSIDE FOOD rule. Because they don't want to have to clean up from the spills from those foods.Or have the food mold or stain the chairs.

It always annoys me to see parents let their kids run wild and leave a mess behind them to let another person deal with. If my kids make a mess, I make them stay and clean it up and if they spill something they have to find a janitor and ask them very nicely if they could clean it up for them and say thank you for going to the trouble. Otherwise they get grounded and we don't go to a movie or eat out for a long while.

anyway those are my thoughts on the subject.

Don't beat yourself up over the topic. Pray and ask God to show you what the right thing to do is.

Ask someone at the movie theater which they would prefer: for you to eat you unfinished lunch and buy a movie ticket or for you to not go to the movies at all.

and then remember that not seeing a movie is not the end of the world. you could always take time to eat your lunch while others are at the movies and maybe read your Bible while you wait for them to come out.

I support Barlygurls opinion. Keep in mind she stated her opinion. Not fact. Getting bent out of shape over others points of view is of no benefit whatsoever.
The problem Barly had wasn't that the kid questioned the OPs wrongdoing but the disrespect toward an authority figure. Which btw is looked down on in scripture.

Your nephew needs to butt out. Sneaking food into a theater is not a sin. Especially if you have blood sugar issues and don't want to waste food. If there is a next time...you can calmly explain to him that it doesn't disrupt your morals, and that is what being a Christian is all about. You set your own morals based on what the Bible says (not what other people say), then follow them.

Personally I can't stand kids. >_< Some of them don't know when they need to keep their mouths shut about other peoples business. You show great patience. :p

your nephew needs a good paddling for usurping authority, calling your out unjustly, speaking so disrespectfully and and in general being a little cretin. He is the one who needs to repent... and if it were me.. it would be the last time for a long time he enjoyed any recreational or entertainment benefit accompanied by me. Snotty presumptuous 12 year olds become haughty rebellious teenagers who morph into holier than thou adults... ick.
You're scary!!!! O.O

Thanks Eliebeth... in working with juvenille correction kids... generally a kid like that knows exactly what they are doing so I used to make 'em write a progressive paper where they had to articulate the issue until they finally arrived a a satisfactory conclusion of three alternative ways they "SHOULD" address authority and why they would. Very time consuming but more instructive and effective than sayin' "if yer gonna act like a turd, go lay in the yard"...

So I read the whole thread and if you asked and it was okay then cool. If you did it overtly and no one said anything then cool as well. If you snuck the snack ;) then not so cool. Sin? Debatable of course but you know in your heart as a Christian wrong from right.
Now the part that burns my buns. Is sneaking a snack into a movie as bad as being disrespectful to an older authoritative family member? Personally...I think not. Good time for the plank and speck lesson eh? I have 3 kids and if they decided to be mouthy like that we'd be back in the car before they could say boo.

I've read a few of your posts and just want to say remember the only opinion that matters is Gods alone. Jesus is the only one to walk on this planet in perfection anyone that says different is selling something. We are all flawed and sinful beings if we weren't we wouldn't need God's redeeming Grace through Jesus Christ. It's okay to stumble Jesus didn't come for the righteous but for the sinners.

In other words don't beat yourself up.

May God's peace and love be with you always!
