Is it wrong to pray for someones death? Like praying they die in a car crash, or have a stroke or get shot..etc
Out of hate yes. Out of compassion no.

I know people who've prayed for hurting (those in nursing homes, dying of disease, those who are near death any way and are only waiting out the inevitable) Christians to go on home and God took them the next day or not long after. They were usually elderly or babies. The others usually pray for healing and sometimes the elderly and babies too, God lets you know what to pray for who.

Actually her screen name choice tells you the opposite of what you think it does. It tells you that there is no redeemed person who is beyond God's repair. But let's act like you and assert that you don't want to hear that.

Her moniker is 'NoRedemptionBeyondRepair' which signifies that she believes there is no redeemed person who is beyond God's repair.

I read her handful of posts and this is someone asking very elementary questions. She is trying to learn about Christianity. She may be a new Christian. At the least, she is positioning herself as someone who is open to the Christian worldview.

Given the old testament, it is reasonable for a newbie to ask such questions. Can you answer questions from baby Christians and interested newbies in a manner that demonstrates the love of Christ?


This feels like "Daddy told me not to eat that candy, so I ate the other candy." If you're old enough to be on this site, you already know the answer, but you just don't like the answer, so you're trying to get around it. Deal with the obvious answer, because there is no getting around it.

There are many occasions in the Bible where God's people have called down curses and even death upon others. The story of Ananias and his wife are one. I think the issue would be whether you curse someone according to your own will or according to Gods?

Acts 5 isn't a Christian praying for someone to die but rather an apostle announcing what God was going to do. If anything, it was prophetic.

"But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" Matthew 5:44

"If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink." Proverbs 25:21

"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you" Luke 6:27

"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse." Romans 12:14

The whole point of Christ's coming is redemption for "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

Since Acts 5 is not an example, show me where else in the New Testament you think "God's people have called down curses and even death upon others."


There are many occasions in the Bible where God's people have called down curses and even death upon others. The story of Ananias and his wife are one. I think the issue would be whether you curse someone according to your own will or according to Gods?

Pray for those that curse you. Yes, this is a hard thing to do. Pray also for protection from those who are wicked and abusive to you. Avoid these types of people.

Here's a few other Biblical examples (sorry I don't have time to find more):

Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. 2 Kings 2:23-25 NIV

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.
Galatians 1:8-9 ESV

And when they opposed and reviled him, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”
Acts 18:6 ESV

First of all let me say that when someone has wounded you enough, it is a common thing that people feel about their victimizer.

But....it is an anger brought on by unprocessed pain and unprocessed pain leads to a soul into turmoil.

OK RickyZ. I think it's important to normalize those which are New Testament examples with the rest of the New Testament; however. We're certainly not called to hand everyone "over to Satan." Seriously NOT!!!

No we're not. Like most things we are to wait for God's leading. I'm just saying that while not common or to be done on our own, there are none the less Biblical examples of God leading people to do that very thing, both old and new Testament.

Seething with enough anger to wish death on another is like drinking poison and expecting them to die.

Maybe I missed the whole "By Gods Leading" thing but it seems counter intuitive when juxtaposed against the whole....bless those who curse you and love your enemy and such things.

As previously mentioned, it is a normal reaction to wish the death of those who abuse us, who persecute us, who make our life miserable. This is completely normal. Hateful thought, however, is the beginning of a painful slavery to sin. Over time, every one of our actions is dictated by these hateful thoughts. As a result, we have be no more peace, no more happiness but total darkness. But thanks to God, there is hope. As Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest".

Our Lord Jesus was humiliated, flogged, crucified and he never wished the death of his enemies. In fact, he asked God to forgive them because they did not realize their wrongdoings. The only way to happiness is to do what Jesus taught us. “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”

Fight the good fight sister! As the Lord said: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Be strong and seek help for you are not alone!

You know, the Bible is like a tool box. I have tools in my toolbox that I rarely use. But when I need that 23/32nds widget, I'm glad I didn't throw it out just because it's rarely used.

God would not answer such a prayer! But you can pray for deliverance from your oppressor - that would be very Biblical!

"Thou shall not kill." This is one of the 10 commandments. How do you think God feels when someone prays that God would kill someone? Like he is supposed to break his own law?

Talk to someone who can stop this abuse. Phone a help line, or an abuse center or the police, depending upon how bad the abuse is.

And pray for those who persecute you.

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust." Mat 5:43-45
