I put my two cents in on a forum thread today (on a secular mom/baby/birth board) about how to handle the topic of homosexuality when your children start to ask questions.

I've been monitoring it all day and reading people's responses to the topic itself and to see what they say about my reply. As you might expect most replies were pro-gay, love is love no matter who it is, blah blah blah. Well, out of 130+ replies so far and at least 80 different people, about 5 of us said that we would stick up for our Biblical roots and teach our children that being gay is something God doesn't approve of...BUT to treat everyone the same regardless. Basically: love the person but not the sin.

So... getting to the topic's title... I do not want to be considered a "Christian" anymore because... of the 75ish other people who were pro-gay and "it's not a choice, just let everyone believe what they want, don't be a homophobe, etc etc" SOOOO many said "I'm a Christian BUT!.." "I'm a Christian BUT.." and most of those ladies went on to say that they only go to churches that teach love and equality to all. Or they are a Christian but they don't go to church or practice anything that they've been taught.

I'm rambling.. but I want a new "name" to go by. All of these extremelyyyyyyyy liberal "Christians" who say that basically they love God but ANYTHING and EVERYTHING goes because God is a god of love and nothing more.. give us all a bad name.

They won't stop calling themselves Christians because they honestly believe that it's okay to be a Christian and follow only the nice, fluffy, rainbowy, love parts of the Bible. So the God-loving, God-fearing folks who realize that all of the Bible is truth and don't pick and choose need something else to go by. (I know none of us are perfect... but come on! God is loving but also jealous and just. There is more to Christianity than God loves everyone... He sure does! But He also wants us to obey certain things so that we can experience every blessing He has in store for us & for us to fulfill His plan for our lives.)

I don't want to be known as a Christian anymore!
I know I'm a little late to this party, but I understand how you feel! Although I wouldn't go so far as to stop calling myself a Christian, because darn it, that's what I AM. I mean, I'm a woman, too, and there are men out there who dress up/get surgery and call themselves women, but I'm not going to stop saying I'm a woman.

Yeah, that's not really on the same level, obviously, but my point is, you are what you are, regardless of how many pretenders you're surrounded by.

I know a lot of people who really, really don't understand what being a Christian even is, and yet they claim to be one. They'll defend themselves with arguments like, "Well, basically it's all about the Golden Rule, right? Do unto others? I treat everyone the way I want to be treated, so I'm a Christian." Or just because they believe in God, they're a Christian. Not the Bible, not Jesus, they just believe that yes, God exists.

That's a good place to start, sure, but that doesn't make you a Christian.

And then there are true Christians out there who worry that they aren't true Christians because they've made mistakes, struggled with things.

Anyway, it's frustrating that everybody and their dog claim to be Christian based on "being nice to people" or "being a good person" (although maybe the dog isn't claiming to be a good person and just wants to chase a ball).

But, as others have said, we'll know them by their fruit.

Is Christ a hypocritical name?
No it is not a hypocritical name. Nor is Christian.
This is just an argument many nonbelievers hold that never has had any credibility. "Christian" means follower of Christ.Just like disciple, yet some make a big deal because the word isn't in scripture.
There are many words not in the bible. Doesn't make them untrue or true. They're just not in there.
"Jesus saves" isn't in the bible, but we all know he does.

"Jesus saves," is in the bible. The typical verse everyone knows, John 3:16- For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. That whosoever should believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. "Jesus saves," if we accept Him.

To say that I am a "True Christian," is pretty sad because the very word (Christian) has lost all creditability and is not clearly defined.

BTW, you don't have to be a non-believer to know that the disciples called themselves disciples of Christ, not Christians.

For me, I STAND by my faith as the scripture demands as in 1 Thessalonians 3:7-8
[SUP]7 [/SUP]Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of YOUR faith. [SUP]8 [/SUP]For now we really live, since YOU are standing firm in the Lord. And to remain faithful in the small things as in Luke 16:10 [SUP]10 [/SUP]“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

God gives us according to walk and our talk and if they correspond with His word. the more we grow and past the test, the more He entrusts to us and it grows from there, and if we fail, He He can take away too.

To me standing on MY faith means, refusing to let the actions or opinions of others get in the way of lowering my own faith that weakens it or makes me turn away from the Lord! for when anyone or anything does this and when we allow anyone to sway us away from standing on the truth we are choosing to walk into trouble. Then we wonder how we got there and our world becomes full of confussion!
Anything that is of confussion and tries to put others in contempt or make others think that such terms are to be done away with like words like Christians or Christmas or sillly ideas like that are not of God. This is whe worlds thinking. I am not of the world. I am called to be different due to the light that He has given to me as all of you are who has taken our great Saviour as our Redeemer and made Him Lord over our life!

Remember the Word says in John 14:15, If you love me you WILL obey my commandments! That means we dont get to pick and choose the commands we want to omit and think we are going to get off scot free due to His grace. I know His love bought our salvation and our forgiveness and now we ARE free! But freedom doesnt mean a license to sin! It only means we now have a choice to TURN AWAY from that sin for that is whay grace is all about!

Each one of us has the freedom to turn away regardless of what our sexual desires are the same as any form of sin! Gay or not, we dont have to act on it! For only the act or the actions itself manifesting is where it gets us into trouble. We all need prayer and there is none who doenst need help in these areas straight or not. We are all sinners. None are exept! Yes scriptures also says if we think it is like we have already committed it and that is why we need prayer but when we act on our thoughts, its harder the next time to stop it before it manifest. Much like an alcoholic who wants a drink. They want one, but telling them to just go and do it would not be the same thing. Eventualy, it will get easier and one day, with Gods help, it will be easier. All sins are the same.

But to say that Gay people can have the right to sin and the striaght people dont, is not what Gods word says. We all must overcome our desires and we cant do that without Gods help.

So all are lost without Him and God loves us all. But we each need to stand up for our own faith and not let anothers terms and definitions make us trun from the Word of the Lord.

I am proud to be a Chrisitian! I dont care what your term of Christianity is. I know what my term is and what God requires of me and that is all that counts. He is my judge and so i need to remember every day that He is watching me. So If i focus only on Him and let my ingegrity and humility in Him increase as He helps me, then how can i go wrong?

I am not here to please man or people or win the approval of an audience. Its only my Lord who i know that when i am in secret that i care about. I need to pray and humble myself daily as i am in constant need for i make so many mistakes, i cant even tell you how many, as only God Himself knows.. I am as weak as anyone as i am human, but God is with me as He is with you too!

I am just so thankful that He loves me anyways...AMEN!

But removing ourself from pride is only half the battle in this walk, obeying His Word is the other. We all need help with both...

I am proud to be in God’s church family, with my brothers and sisters who have God as their Father. But I haven’t found a church in the world I can feel proud to be part of.

In my church family, we are set apart, not part of the fleshly world. We think different, act different, have different goals. In the world church is love, accepting of themselves but not of others, or tolerance so it is not right to label sin as sin. They almost perfectly blend in with the fleshly world. Even the music is taken from the world so they can attract the people of the world.

They are trying, they have no idea at all that more is expected of them than what they are giving.

Wow! I know how you are feeling. My son asked me many times if I believed if God created homosexuals and my response was no. He created man and woman. He finally told me that he was gay and he believes that this is the way God created him to be. we debated this to the point that I told him we needed to agree to disagree. Homosexuality is a choice. When we become saved we become a New Creation , which means we are to live a new lifestyle according to God's word. You can't just do whatever you want after you are saved. Jesus is about change and there must be a heart change that takes place as you grow and learn God's word. I have seen and heard so many Christians that will drink a beer in front of unbelievers and think nothing of it. Now the new thing I have been hearing is that Christians are tired of playing church. It angers me. It worries me because we need to take a stand and be good examples of living Godly lives. God is a loving God , however He is also a just God . His no is no and His yes is yes and He disaplines His children. We need to be careful of abusing His grace. It is no wonder why people get turned off with Christians. On the other hand, you can't let ignorant Christians , who may be living a carnal life take the title of Christian away from you. This is exactly what satan wants. Continue to live a Godly life and just pray for those who don't. Some just want their ears tickled. So stand tall and strong and know He loves you.

Jesus does say you must be "born again" in John 3:3.(NIV). But I do agree with you on what you say.Why would anyone think that Christ is a hypocritical name?

I'm curious how well YOU have done controlling YOUR thoughts?

True, true. Lusting is wrong regardless.. But I feel like its much easier for someone to control their thoughts when they aren't acting them out physically as well?

good googly goo! Are we now supposed to feel bad or ashamed of calling ourselves Christians? A muslim can be called a "believer". A Bhudist can be called a "believer". Even a vegetarian can be called a "believer." If you follow Jesus and live for Him. Just called yourself a Christian! If you are ashamed to call yourself a "Christian" just because there may be some that don't measure up that is no reason to be ashamed of the word.

I actually thought about this more. Well, the part about where I said that if a gay person doesn't act upon their desires than its not longer sinful. And I still believe that. I believe it's a sin for a man/man or woman/woman to sleep together and I believe it's a sin if a man or woman is thinking about doing sexual things or undressing someone with their mind.. But that's not always the case. Simply thinking "they are cute" or "he's handsome" or "they've got pretty eyes" isn't a sin no matter who it's directed to. Those things are not lustful and they aren't physically doing anything impure.

And it does take a lot of practice and you mess up a lot! But you can change your thoughts if you're determined to do so. In high school I used to refer to guys as "hot" until I realized what that was referring to and I decided to stop. I started with not saying it out loud.. Then every time I thought the word "hot" ..I would stop and think "no..they are good looking!" And over and over I continued to correct myself until it was no longer part of my vocabulary.

If its something more serious that you have issues thinking about and involve prayer about it as well as your own determination.. It's completely possible. That person may continue to think that the same sex is attractive.. But God will see that they aren't acting on it and they are taking control of their thoughts (and repent when things get out of hand).. And they are no different from the rest of us then. Because we all have our own issues and repent from those as well.

Think of things this way. If an entire country goes from a nice, solid Christian background to everyone does witchcraft in xx(x) years, than who is right?

Don't be discouraged.

People have a lot of faults, myself and you included.

Find those that are educated enough about their faith and defend the right things -- The Truth doesn't change because 999/1000 people or more don't follow it.

Your point? That in a different perspective compared to the word use, "Christian". If someone else wants to call themselves a Christian, fine. However, I do not want to be associated with a hypocritical name.
