English Standard Version 2.Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

The word of God says that we are a new creation, the old has passed away and the new has come. This is a profound truth which the enemy tries to rob us of. God says our past has been put to death and yet Satan loves nothing more than reminding us daily about the things we fell/fall short on. "That past relationship that cause us and other no end of pain, what a mess that was"! "I used to be so nasty, it's just in my genes that addiction, that anger problem, that weakness of depression".

Any yet Christ makes it clear we are a new creation, and the old has gone - the new has surely come!

"So why then am I still struggling with old thought patterns? Why am I still fighting those old addictions, anger issues and what not"?

These are all questions we ask ourselves ...
It takes a process for us to truly receive and believe that we are a new creation. Remember we are created in Christ to do good works. The reason we are able to do these things is because of the Spirits work within us. God is sanctifying us. He is setting us apart to be more and more like Him.

Part of this includes dealing with our past rejections, past hurts, past mistakes PAST EVERYTHING'S. Remember no matter what you've don in the past, the truth is you are now a NEW CREATION In Christ Jesus. It is by His power we are set free from sin and death.

It is by His righteousness we are blameless in His sight. It is by His will we have become children of God and He desires us to become more like Him. Take the broken ugliness of you past and lay it upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith.

I realise this scripture is not referring to us specifically, but what it is referring to is the nature of a God, who desires these changes within our lives. And it gives us a glimpse of the way God chooses to deal with us personally.

Isaiah 43:18 -19
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 65:17
"See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Ezekiel 36:26
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

John 3:3
Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."

Romans 6:4
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Let us make a decision to believe the word of God and move on in Him. Remember King David, someone who was prone to emotional outbursts. Someone who fell through his passions and lusts. Someone who knew only too well what it was like to struggle His past demons ... sums it up beautifully here Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. God is at work today and it's His desire to restore your soul, to set you apart on the path of righteousness. Desire change and cling onto the master with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

Beautifully written Chancer, I agree...I would add that Jesus being omniscient, however, did mean it specifically to us. Knowing of things to come and the Saints to come. He predestined us, and relished over us before we began attaching Himself to us in love.It was an all inclusive statement. "If anyone....

You were referencing the fact He was speaking at the time to a different crowd in front of Him, correct? But I would make sure we do see it personally, For He cares in a personal way. And Satan would love to use the idea that it wasn't personally our modern God expecting that much change..... for his ability to distract. But God hasn't changed. And hasn't given us moderners less of Himself in our change.

I enjoyed the text however...Very nice. 'He leads" "He restores" "He sets us apart on the way to righteousness" He get's all the hard jobs, we just change, cling diligently, with every last drop of effort....Ok, maybe not easy but doable with His powerful love providing the way. And a love so powerful we can't help but proceed forward in it. God bless you richly.

I actually agree with you bro. The reason I said that is because some people love the debate scriptural references, and have tried to correct me in the past. I put that as a side step to anyone detracting from the poignancy of the word. :) haha you can't win either way :p

Thank you for your kind words :) GBU and keep you

You owe nobody anything save one thing: The whole of the truth of the Gospel! This is your loyalty to your God and to your mankind. Men will be attracted more to that form of loyalty to the truth for they need real answers. And they will be in a grind over it as well as they transition from what they are being hit with in view of themselves to the new creation you spoke of. Belt down for persecution. If God is in you it's coming. Commit to walking thru those flames, with God. It will burn but God will protect you. God richly bless you! Love is His wrapping paper, always.

2 Corinthians 4:10:

"We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body." The old out- The new in!.............

It's not actually a mistake...The subject of your theme there was works not The spirit itself, thus a past-tense of a spirit works is a spirits work. Not many Spirits but many works. You can phrase that in many ways..the work of the spirit [implying] yada yada...simply put you didn't mean many spirits. Had he said working that would imply many spirits....smile.
