In Matthew 9 Jesus states the only reason one should get a divorce is due to sexual immorality. Another scripture which I can't recall where it's located states that unless your husband / wife is keeping you from serving God you should not divorce them.

I don't think that verse about keeping them from serving God is in the Bible.

Good point about forgiveness, though.

My apologies, perhaps I misspoke. I know there is the scripture about being unevenly yoked but Paul covers that basis stating that just because your husband or wife is a nonbeliever is not grounds for divorce...since one does not know if through your Christ centered lifestyle they will or will not come to know God.

Thanks for the correction ;)

Just watched a music video on you tube with johnny cash and june carter.
He was married to someone else before he divorsed her and married June. A love story many have heard and seen or witnessed somehow.

If one is miserable in a marriage.

Many marry for the wrong reasons.
Maybe a woman or man wants to marry for money or position and the other party truly beleives they are loved and its a christian marriage.
They are fooled.Not there fault.

It could be abuse that despite forgiveness, and prayers and all the help still goes on with no thought or will to stop.
It can be adultery or just that one is truly unhappy for reasons one can not seem to resolve.

Many may be the reasons why one divorces and one should and does have the right to remarry.

So are you saying if someone is in a marriage with problems, he or she has the right to disobey Jesus?

(Matthew 19, I Corinthians 7)

I think I see in this thread why divorce is so common. The Bible gives some narrow guidelines in regard to divorce. Yet, a lot of people say divorce is justified even if outside of those parameters, even though Jesus said it was adultery. Why? Because they are relying on the ethics and morality they have learned growing up-- they are relying on secular morality.

No wonder divorce is so common.
