Many women in my church, workplace and in chat ask me how a single mom raises a godly son. It touches me deeply and humbly when they do.
Honestly, after my husband passed away, I wondered the same thing. But now, having done that (my son is now a man) as well as another male extended family member, I would simply encourage you to do the following:
1. Live out YOUR faith day to day in front of him
2. Pray without ceasing for God's wisdom and guidance for your son
3. Be involved with your son in a church where there are godly men to serve as examples and mentors to him when he has those "man questions".
4. Involve extended family members in your son's life to do the same. (I've been blessed with awesome older stepbrothers.)
5. EARN your son's respect and trust. I cannot stress this enough. If you want your son to be able to come to you seeking godly counsel and to cling tightly to the things you have taught him and the examples you have set for him, this is ...critical.
If you do these things, you won't need to be concerned about not having authority over him as a man when he becomes one. You don't need to because he will know the truth of the Word, he will have seen how to apply it to his life, he will know the One who has the answers and he will trust your heart regarding matters of concern regarding his life when he shares his heart and life with you. And the older his gets, the more frequent those times are likely to become it seems.
