My wife and I have come to absolutely hate living in Los Angeles. It's crowded, it's hot, is dirty, we can't breathe the foul air, and worst of all the people just suck (mean and nasty and narcissistic to the nth degree). We put together a list of qualifiers in looking for somewhere else to live, these brought us to a small farming town in southwestern Minnesota where she has family. We rented an apartment there in October and have been splitting our time there and in LA to see what it was like. We have come to absolutely love it out there.

We don't live easy lives. The world and it's rulers go out of their way every single day to keep us as stymied and stonewalled as human beings can be. But our time in MN has been so different. Everything that has needed to fall into place to get us to MN has fallen into place as if were being scripted. That includes finding the most perfect house that fits all our needs to a T. We've believed this was God telling us this is where He wants us.

Since we made the offer on the house this has ceased. The mortgage company has pulled every trick in the book... bait and switch, outright lies, stalling and delaying, and pulling all their usual games. I keep hearing about how we with our spotless credit record and bare minimal debt are the model clients the loan industry is looking for, yet these agencies seem to have no real interest in our business at all. It's left such a foul taste in our mouths that we really just want to tell them where to shove their loan. (And yes we did shop around, but when you're dealing with an industry full of liars and deceivers how much good will that really do?)

The reality agent has been a bust too. Other than unlock the door and let us in, she's been of absolutely no help. She won't answer questions, never produced a list of comps (even when we directly asked her too), and won't answer emails or phone calls. We found out halfway thru the process that the seller of the house is her lawyer representing her in a divorce. Obvious conflict of interest, but when we investigated going with another agent, we were told that no one else would take us on because "they don't do that (take other's clients away) here". And, it's a small town where everyone knows everyone else... where would we find an agent who didn't have this conflict? We looked up to an hour away with no luck.

So now we are questioning whether this is what God wants for us. Or is it just the facts of life in dealing with an industry that crashed the entire world economy and was never held to account for it? I know we are not the only ones facing these industry roadblocks. But I never figured that with our credit and debt credentials they would openly screw us like they have.

So, is this God saying don't buy, or is this satan trying to thwart God's will for us? I'm suspecting the latter, the industry being in satan's pockets and all. But I don't want to miss out on something God might say to us just because of the industry history of playing these games.

Your thoughts?
Most states have oversight boards that regulate the real estate industry. I suggest that you report your agent to the state Attorney General's office Consumer Protection Agency. Then find a Baptist General Conference church or a Mission Covenant Church and ask the pastor to recommend a Real Estate agent or broker.

Amazingly, all the roadblocks just fell away. It's all a done deal now! Thank you God, and to all here.

People there are sooo nice. Everyone waves, everyone stops to talk, even if they have time to get on the road ahead of you drivers will wait and let you pass. Other than this one real estate agent, who is actually very nice despite her lack of helping, I've yet to come across anyone there who isn't an honest stand up person. It's funny but the couple next door, the husband was my wife's cousin's best man!

For sure not everyone is made for the cold. The -11 was actually in February. Didn't bother us at all, actually felt refreshing. And yes I know the mortgage industry flaunts the fact that they are not accountable to anyone. But like Roger pointed out, it's always good to look for confirmation when these questions come up.

One thing on my bucket list is to chase a tornado (call me crazy). Hopefully if we ever get the chance to do that it'll be in the middle of a cornfield and not downtown ;)

Yeah, I do realize that I can't eliminate all the idiots. But I can limit how many of them I have around me. One of the things I like about MN is that when people wave at you, they wave all 5 fingers, not just the one!

And yes this toxic environment definitely impacts my walk with God. Another reason to leave it, sooner rather than later.
I grew up in California. My old neighborhood was friendly, peaceful. Now it's a dump. People moved in and brought their culture with them and literally ruined the homes, the schools, the churches, the streets. There are at least three major groups swarmed in the city. And they each speak different languages. Not English.

Here's a statement that 80% of employers put on job applications in the area: Bilingual preferred.

Praise the Lord! I've been praying for you.

FYI Both the Baptist General Conference, and the Mission Covenant Church started as Sweedish Language denominations; but most are now English speaking. Both denominations, along with the Evangelical Free church tend to be Biblically sound without being legalistic. If you are looking for a church, that may be a good place to look.

I'm still here and surrounded, as always, which simplifies the problem as I don't have to go looking for them.

LA is terrible. I agree.

Don't know why the mortgage would be hassling you. There's no need for it. Try a credit union. They are more personal, helpful, welcoming, and friendly. Just call one and ask about how to be a member. Some credit unions only require you live in a certain zip code or area.

Change to a different agent when your contract with the present agent expires.

God's will is that you seek Him daily and grow in love toward Him and teach others about Him no matter where you live.
Iveseenworse, I see you LIKEd my reply. Does that mean you've seen worse replies than mine which makes my reply likeable? Or does it mean you like my reply but you have seen worse?

We are in the new house! It's awesome... altho it's been stressful. It's funny, when I live under the stress I question it still (a little), yet when I turn on Christian music (especially praise and worship), I am literally brought to my knees in tears I am so happy and content to be here. Thank You Lord for this, and thank you all at CC for bearing me up in your thoughts and prayers.

Someone above mentioned my negativity - and I do need help with that. I'll admit I'm jaded, living 57 years in the armpit of the world (and 35 years servicing the same) has definitely had an impact. Please pray with me that that damaged attitude is shed and left behind.

Pssst, the armpit of the world is NJ, not Cali. Just sayin'. That's my home state, I still love it so, but if you ever get to visit NJ, take a big whiff. It's an armpit. lol

You know, it's funny. As a kid I hated the city, always thought I should be on a farm or ranch or even herding cattle back in the 1800's. And I thought it was bit ironic that God would place me for my career smack dab in the middle of one of the biggest metropoli in the world. That's part of the negativity, I've been a fish out of water for 58 years. But now He's brought us to the heart of the farmland for our last years. Thank you Lord, and I can't wait to get my hands on a John Deere :)

I've also, for the looongest time, had the impression that for my last years I would meet a woman with a child and we would become a family. I thought my being married might complicate that a bit. But my wife's closest sister died of cancer leaving her 11 year old boy in the hands of a father who's anything but. God has posed us perfectly to tak him in and care for him as our own. Prophetic words may not be interpreted 100%, but He clarifies it in the end!

You go full steam as a team and let GOD do the worry. My wife and I have been happily married over 39 years, but every single time we try to purchase a car, or get an extended loan for home improvements, we find that our credit is absolutely horrible, due to things beyond our control. We have been firmly established at the same residence for the entire time. Our house was built new, our belongings all paid for before our wedding day. Our two vehicles paid for before our wedding..so we were 'set'. Then came kids and more bills, but everything was cool. Then came the afflictions and disasters. Our house was broken into while we were sleeping and all our monies, jewelry, quick value items, and automobile was stolen as we were held at gunpoint, while yet sleeping and did not know it. This went against our 'credit'. Our insurance pro-rated all stolen items which was way in the thousands and we got a grand total to replace all missing items and car of 750.00 dollars.
Then came two hurricanes here in Maryland that took our huge oak trees down, one just missing the house, and one that tore into the swimming pool. This went against our "credit'. Then came the time when a police officer broadsided my pregnant wife's car as she was making a left turn. He was off duty but decided to pass her, while her signal was flashing. This just about totaled our car, and she almost lost the baby. No charges were done to the police officer, and this was held up in court for two years and we got nothing but grief for this and the baby did come into the world breached, according to the Doctor's report, due to the accident. These bills went against our "Credit".
Then came the day a drunk driver plowed into my 16 yr old daughters car, pinning her inside. His battery went through her windshield and landing in the passenger's seat, spilling acid all over the place. This totalled our car again. Two passengers in the drunk vehicle called an telephone hotline and sued my family for their injuries, even though they refused hospital treatment. This 69,000.00 dollar lawsuit went against our "Credit" and it took over 7 years to get expunged.
Then came the black mold that spread throughout our house, due to a faulty leak from day one that had slowly eaten away the very support beams of our house. We had to vacate our home for over 3 months as the entire house was gutted and rebuilt. We moved back into the house, not knowing that they had NOT replaced the rotten beams, but had 'scissored' new lumber against them. Within 4 years, our floors and doors began to sag and found that termites had attacked the wet wood. We now live in a house that our insurance has dropped and is slowly sagging and falling down around us. This went against our 'credit' and now, my wife and I are facing our golden years with NO good credit, no insurance company with will take us and no way to get a second hand vehicle unless we want to pay high credit amount premiums. I am a manager of a homeless shelter and our residents have it better, as far as opportunities, than what my wife and I have , due to our bad credit reports. GOD is good! We are a live and blessed!

Wow when it rains it pours. I'm sorry to hear of all these issues, you're definitely going thru a Job trial and satan is attacking you. Lord God, when satan attacked Job he remained faithful to You and You rewarded him. My brother here, despite all these woes, ends his words with faith! Honor his faith Lord and restore him as You did Job. Let not the enemy occupy him and divert from his mission time and resources - In Jesus' Name may angels surround him and his family and home and occupy their attackers! May even more angels bear them up with ministry. Father I sense a weary soul that has persevered in You despite the battle. Honor that with Your peace and strength and rest. Lord in these days these woes we know will increase... but we know that like Noah you will give us a way out. Be the Light upon their path out of this darkness. Bind satan, and let healing begin.

Amen

Bless you my brother. I'll be praying for you and your home.
