In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, GEN1:1 He then ended his work on the sixth day. He rested on the seventh day (GEN 2:1-3) , not because he was tired, but because he wanted to set an example for us. It is a day that is set aside for us to spend time with God. A day when we put aside all work and pleasure activity and rest in the Lord. It is a day to go to church, tell someone about Christ, do charity, visit someone who is sick etc.
EXO. 20: 8-11 REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY.SIX DAYS SHALL THOU LABOUR AND DO THY WORK: BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: IN IT THOU SHALL NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU NOR THY SON NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES: FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH, THE SEA AND ALL THAT I THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY: WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESS THE SABBATH DAY AND HALLOWED IT.
MARK 2: 27-28 And He (Jesus) said unto them, the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man (Jesus) is Lord of the sabbath. Jesus himself kept the sabbath.
Look at it from this point of view; if you have fiance or spouse wouldn't you spend time with that person alone. Even though you may go out with friends, visit family go to public places, there will be a time when you want it just the two of you.
Likewise, the sabbath is a time for us to spend time with God. Even though we may do good and worship him through out the week, there comes a time when we need to place our focus on God and forget about everything else. It is a blessing for us to rest in Him. I revives the soul and gives renewed strength to face the coming week.
God chooses the day for us not we ourselves.
Give it a try and let me know how it was.
