Why do Christians say brother and sister in Christ? Or we are all family in Christ. What does that mean? sorry if these questions sound very ignorant. could someone explain why that is and when it became like that? Or is it just a saying because you all worship the same god?

Well, we have God our Father. Jesus is our brother. God adopted us, so we're in the same family.

As far as sounding ignorant goes? Did I just sound that way? I can back this up with the Bible, but it's going to take some work, and I'm the lazy sister, so only do work as needed. lol

We become a part of God's family when we accept His Son Jesus into our hearts. Until then, we are like neighbor kids. So, as a part of God's family, we are brothers and sisters :)

Ro 8:14-17
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
KJV

Since we believe that all believers have become children of God by adoption; it follows that we are family in Christ.

Yep all of the answers above, God is our Father, therefore believers are brothers and sisters to each other. You know, it took a few years for it to click why it was so, when the light was on it was like woah! YOUR MY BROTHER!

If you call God abba/father than you have a personal loving relationship with Him and all that He loves you love and loves you. To be loved by God and to be apart of His family is more than worship it is life for all else are dead though they breathe.

Aside from the obvious responses mentioned I also feel like it goes much deeper than that. Someone mentioned squabbling like brothers and sisters, and it's true honestly. We act like a family in more ways than one. Jesus said that people will know us by our love for each other. We're a people that should have each others backs through thick and thin.

I disagree with certain things in the church. I don't approve of some of the most religious peoples behavior, but will I call them out in front of everyone? No. Will I chastise them, and berate, and insult them? No. They're still a part of my family and we still love the same God. I will defend them even if I disagree, and if I feel like they are THAT wrong about something, then I will help correct them behind close doors. Why? Because it is respectful, and a loving way to handle things, regardless of what I think of their actions

Exactly. I liked the way MarcR said it also. From His Word Direct!

As His Children, we are all learning too, all at different levels and no one person is "better' than another. We all get disciplined and humbled when needed too. And our Heavenly Father knows what is best for us, even more than our earthly fathers. (if we had them) It's not always easy receiving that discipline, its very hard at times..but that's part of learning to trust Him and He knows best.

Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

God is so Good!

It is for various reasons which I can elaborate on at length if you desire. But to put it as simply as possible, the Bible begins with the biological family as the central social context of human life and as a chief means of God’s communication with human beings. This social view of the family becomes extended into a spiritual and heavenly reality, with the community of God’s people as a metaphoric family.

The Bible is a story about God’s family from beginning to end. God made families in the first place partly as a biological and social basis for the human race and partly as the channel of his grace and judgment. God is also making for himself a family of sons and daughters who will serve him and praise him and reign with him in his kingdom forever (Revelations 22:3–5).

And then a few years later, it became, "Aw, nuts! You're my brother!"

And a few years later that became a sigh.

And now I'm getting to the point of remembering others are thinking, "Aw, nuts! You're my sister" about me.

So, yup, Siberian Khatru isn't wrong. We do fight like siblings. lol
