I've been really digging The Showdown lately. Just wondering if there are any other christian metal fans out there?

I play guitar, and I've found God can be glorified in all types of music.
(Although I wouldn't give an alter call to pounding drums with an overarching lead)

I listen to Tourniquet, Bride and a few others pretty regularly. I've enjoyed a few songs by The Showdown, never really listened extensively to them. But my musical tastes are pretty vast, there isn't much I can't appreciate.

Do you mean real metal heads? Or metalcore that thinks they're metal heads?

Well I like metal but not what is generally considered "metal" in the Christian scene. I like melodic metal for the most part and that just doesn't exist in Christian circles (and what is there is generally really bad save a few I could count on one hand).

What kinds of bands qualify as melodic metal to you?

Mmm... Bands like Kamelot, Sabaton, Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Eluveitie, Wintersun, Helloween, Sirenia, Symphony X etc etc... Mostly power metal stuff... but not like ManOwaR power metal.

Christian bands... Theocracy... and that's the only one I liked... well and Savior Machine's first album... and Holy Bloods later albums.

Eluveeitie was actually a Christian band originally. A lot of Christians still label them as such, despite the shift in their lyrics.
I am not a fan of melodic or power metal much, i know there are a lot of Christian bands within that style. I'll list some that i know are supposed to be good in case you haven't heard of them..

7 Days
Krusader
Veni Domine
Darkwater
Divinefire
Faith Factor
Fires of Babylon
Harmony
Majestic Vanguard
Narnia
Temple of Blood
ReinXeed
Virgin Black

Maybe you've heard them all and hate them, i don't know. I tried if so.

It's ok :) Thanks though. Some of those are alright and I own a few albums by a number of them but... It's just so average and boring to the real stuff I like and I just feel listening to these that I wouldn't have even given them the time of day that I did if they weren't Christian. And can't say I played them more than a handful of times before pulling Sabaton and Kamelot back out, lol.

I never knew that about Eluveitie. That's cool. They are fricken awesome IMO. They're gonna be in LA with Wintersun in november and I really wanna make it to that!

I've heard some Wintersun, was good stuff, but i couldn't get past their whole evil vibe. That's why i mostly listen to Christian stuff. Can't tolerate the lyrics in the secular, and i can tell a difference when i listen to secular music for too long. I can feel it pulling me down mentally and emotionally.

How about Crowbar? The singer there claims to be born again. And his last CD sounds like it, except one song he keeps dropping f-bombs, but the rest of it could be on any full on Christian CD lyrically.

I like bands in pretty much every genre, but when it comes to metal I like the real stuff. Old Living Sacrifice, Extol, things like that. I'm not a huge power metal fan, but I love Narnia.

Oooo... old LS... great stuff. First 3 albums were great. In fact...*puts on LS self titled. Thats better. Yeah, i got saved right as Vengeance, Deliverance and all the big boys were just putting out Cd's, so it was a great time back then.

I like some Christian punk too. Though i'm more metal, but i do like some good sloppy punk (no pop punk)... love old Crashdog, Jesus Skins, Anti-Hell Society, Christcore, The Deal, Grave Robber, Our Corpse Destroyed, True Libery, Unisef... among others.

I'm sorry guys, and I hate to sound like an old guy, but, metal doesn't belong in Christian music, at all. By nature of the sound, it is probably 95% dark sounding. When you are listening to metal music, you are fellowshipping with demons-- sorry, I call it like I see it, and hear it. To me, metal music is very disturbing and sounds like it is coming from the pit of hell. I lost a promising job once, because the manager was playing metal music. It is so disturbing, that I had to step outside. The customers complained about it also.

Even bands like DCtalk, while I like some of their songs, like "Into Jesus," on that same album, they crossed over to the dark side several times with their melodies. Trust me on this. I'm from the 70's, and the same thing was happening back then with some rock bands being dark-sounding and others being more upbeat, although, most of the time, the music was about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. I played the bass guitar in a rock band, so I know what I'm talking about. Some of our songs also crossed over to the dark side, and I was forced to play them. One time, I walked off the stage. I can hear this stuff-- clearly. Crystal clearly. If you're trying to mix metal with being a Christian, you are deceived. I finally gave up all my 70's worldly rock music, while some of it was acceptable. 95% or more of the metal music is about dark demonic power, and glorification of evil.

I know one guy, a very talented musician, who is into all kinds of music, including metal. On stage he started screaming AC/DC "Highway to Hell." He seems very troubled and it's because of the metal music. Being demonic, it fries your conscience and your emotions, leading many people to self-destruct on drugs and other addictive behaviors to try to "feel something." When you become a Christian, you need to leave the metal behind. You can't have both Jesus and metal. And you can not mix them.

Ask yourself why your heart or soul is attracted to this dark sounding, often violent sounding music? Just because you grew up with it, does not make it right, and just because Christian artists are playing Christian metal does not make it right. They are blinded, deluded and deceived because that is the fruits of the demonic, dark music that they are playing. That's what evil does-- it entices you without you even knowing it is evil.

So, take it from a rock musician from the 70's that knows. Get it out of your house and out of your life, now. And parents, destroy this music, and do not let it into your house.

Seek peaceful music that leads to God-- not violent, dark music that leads to Hell.
Get off the "Highway to Hell," music.

I couldn't disagree more. As long as the lyrics glorify God ten I don't see a problem with it. You don't know my heart and you don't know the hearts of those who write the music. If it puts me in a spirit to worship, then that is between me and God.

Crowbar...sludge metal ..Neurosis is a good sludge metal band if you don't mind the fact that they are secular.

I suppose I'd be "guilty" of liking metalcore, could never get into straight metal if that's how you'd like to define it. I'm still looking for people who know where I'm coming from when I say I like August Burns Red, TDWP, Wolves At The Gate, For Today, etc. :)
