I don't know about all of that. I enjoy the talk but I can't really add anything to that. I hear what I hear and I can play it. I can create it. I can't write it down. I don't worry about the small things. If it sounds right to myself and it has and it seems to sound good to everyone else. Then I'm good. I'll leave the technical stuff to all you drummers. I play drums but may not be a drummer.
Oh stop...lol I'll be honest with you dude...I really don't consider myself a drummer in any traditional sense either...never had formal lessons...I can read some drum tab,but can't read music...totally self taught...I play by ear..that's how I learned..or I'd watch people. I just play...what I feel...I am sure I could be "better",and while I have never had any former musicians I've played with tell me I have poor timing or I'm not a walking talking metronome,I am sure I have tons of room for improvement. Yer' opinion counts,dying...you certainly have great things to share,if nothing more than your passion for music & God. I think that's enough. LOL

Yeah, I dig all that. I'm not down on myself. I like the way I play. I'm just not going to get super technical but I apreciate those who can. I'm just being real about the way I do things. Keep'n it rizzle or rizzeele? Whatever the kids are saying these days.

Okay, for the fun of it I typed in "terrible drummer" on youtube. What I found was this guy and then a bunch of other supposed terrible drummers. This was the worst one. I have never seen the double bass drum mallets dropped at the same time so much. and....well just listen. Funny thing is that I have gone to jam with people and ended up in a room with someone like this. Trying to follow along on guitar not having the heart to tell them the truth. I've got a little story to share about this. This man, Jason Sutters, has played in many high profile acts. He played in Blink 182 back in the day. He's been a studio/session guy for years now. He currently is a member of Marilyn Manson. You guys may not like Manson or his music, but this video is a testament to what could be. As the story goes, Marilyn Manson was seeking a new drummer and he had just filled the bill. But he saw this exact youtube video and thought it was cool and just decided to set up a meeting with Jason. It turned out that he was far better than the other guy and they got along better (better personality which is needed when you are on tour and going to be seeing this guy day in and day out for months and months)

So, use youtube as a tool to get jobs! It happens. Maybe you could be the next drummer or guitarist or whatever in some high profile act like Marilyn Manson! A dream come true over a silly little youtube video!

I've actually heard that thin shells are better for recording. Is this true?

Alan Balamut. This is the best example I could find of what I call a one handed snare roll. I've seen it done by various drummers. The first time I ever saw it done was by some drummer from a band unknown who was touring that we played with. I don't remember their name but it was awesome. I don't know the technical term either for what he's doing. It's just really really fast...on the snare drum with one hand. lol. Believe these are called Gravity Beats.

Okay, this is computer animation and midi! I have never heard a drummer where I couldn't match what they were doing on guitar percussively. This is my nightmare!
