Best Christian Song of All-time Tournament 2024 - EVERYONE Welcome to Participant

Just for fun and to share our favorite songs, I thought we can have a christian song tournament. This refers to recorded songs.

Rules:

1. Please post a list of what you think are the 5 best christian songs.
- Your list must include the full Song Title and the Recording Artist (example: El Shaddai - Amy Grant). That's all you need! (please verify it's the full song title and spelled correctly)

2. (Optional) you may include a youtube link to the specific song version you want considered - which you can do by cut/paste the URL address and remove the "https//", so it looks like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8txqw-u4V78
- Do NOT use the Insert/Video function as this will make it difficult to load the page for everyone.

After enough lists are posted, the top vote getters will be included in a final poll thread for everyone to vote on, including CC Members who have not submitted a list.

What's a Christian Song? -- You decide. A christian song generally conveys any expression of the faith. It does not have to be a praise song. It can be a hymn, but you must include a Recording Artist.

Below I've included a few examples to spark some thoughts:

El Shaddai - Amy Grant -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=8txqw-u4V78
Jordan Feliz - The River -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=maT4phfTXR4
Hold On - Kansas -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xikm2YS_7xM

My tastes are not in the American mainstream. At all.

Here are a few of my favorites...

Declaration: "Welcome Home" (Divine Design)
AD: "We Are the Men" (Art of the State)
Petra: "Graverobber" (Not of this World)
Mad at the World: "Fearfully and Wonderfully" (self-titled album)
"How Great Thou Art"

Well, think about what are the best christian songs of all time. We might like a song for some reasons, maybe it's the lyrics that mean something to us at the time. For this, make a list of your all time favorites over your life, and pick the best 5. It's just for fun! You can do it!!!

Maybe we can pick Carrie Underwood's version of How Great Thou Art? Her band does a great job, and she nails it.

I was also really liked Petra's Graverobber. Fearfully and Wonderfully is an excellent choice!

Do you have Kerry Livgren's Decade? It's basically a greatest hits, and it has a few from Art of State: All Creation Sings, The Fury, Progress and Up From The Wasteland. Ever hear Livgren's Seeds of Change album?

I never have. Never a fan of Kansas, so I don't know much about them or him. Why, pray tell, do you ask young Sculpt?

Oh, just the regular reason... ;) You picked AD: "We Are the Men" (Art of the State) as one of the best songs. Kerry Livgren is the band leader/founder of the band A.D. and he wrote the song 'We Are the Men'. Livgren wrote 80% of the A.D. songs and most of the Kansas songs. He's the lead guitarist in both bands. So, I figured you might have heard and liked some of his other music. Like the album Seeds of Change. It had Ground Zero on it, which I thought was one of his best.

Kerry wrote Dust in the Wind, Point of Know Return, Hold On, Carry On My Wayward Son, were big radio hits. Did you like A.D.'s first album Timeline? From that album I liked Beyond the Pale, Slow Motion Suicide and Tonight. A.D. definitely has a different sound than Kansas.

Wow, I know little of what you speak. I was not aware AD had a prior album.

5? 50? 500? 5000? There are just too many that say too many good things very well.

Fine. Here's 5 I like, but there are other, better ones that I'm not thinking of right now.

Song - Artist
What the song says to me
Youtube video

"Use Me" - Pete Orta
Doesn't matter how important you think you are. God has a great imagination.

"Head Above Water" - Anointed
God's got it under control, even when you think you're sinking.

"Run To The End Of The Highway" - Keith Green
You can run from everything, but more of the same will be waiting wherever you end up. To fix your problems you gotta start with yourself.

"Chromefish" - Go Fish (No, really, Go Fish is the group name...)
You can talk the talk, but it don't matter unless you walk the walk.

"When It Was Over" - Sara Groves
God still loves you. Get over what you did. Some people may still love you too, to your great surprise.

I could find 500 favorites in my southern gospel alone. 5 isn't even enough to choose one to represent half the styles in my collection.

Five more:

"Wake up" - Paige Armstrong
Life is too short to let it go by.

"The Last Sunday" - Cathedral Quartet
Be ready.

"My Lord Will Send A Moses" - Cookes
Just hang in there baby.

"De Blood" - Papa San
I just like the sound. They can't all be deep, yo. But I do like the subject matter.

"Chasing After You" - Carl Cartee
Nobody's perfect, but we're following someone who is. We'll get there someday.

In no particular order:

Tonight The Starts Speak by The Glorious Unseen (lyrics in video)

Jesus Christ by Saviour Machine (lyrics... https://lyricstranslate.com/en/Machine-Saviour-Jesus-Christ-lyrics.html )
[lyrics meaning... I am not sure of the intended meaning of the lyrics, but to me it seems to indicate someone struggling in their faith, and battling those feelings. They want to be set free and move on to heaven to end the battle, so they're begging Jesus to return]

The Sinners Songbook by The Insyderz (lyrics in video)

At The Moment by Stavesacre (lyrics in description on YT page)

The Rotten Hand by Flatfoot 56 (lyrics... https://www.lyricsbox.com/flatfoot-56-the-rotten-hand-lyrics-113wqn5.html )

Absence by Focused (lyrics in video)

I Surrender by Unashamed (great lyrics in description on YT page)

Count The Cost by Strongarm (lyrics... https://www.allthelyrics.com/lyrics/strongarm/count_the_cost-lyrics-1159432.html )

It is so hard to pick only five as there are so many amazing Christian songs/hymns.

1-The Lords my Shepherd by Stuart Townsend
2- Missing Jesus by Caleb and John
3- Battle Belongs To You by Phil Wickham
4- Nobody Loves Me Like You by Chris Tomlin
5- Way Maker by Leeland

I would have a terribly tough time picking five... five top faves, that is...

But I can give you five that have stood the test of time with me (in no particular order)...

Come, Now Is The Time To Worship - Brian Doerksen featuring Wendy Whitehead

Father, Son, Spirit -
from A Table Full Of Strangers by Jason Upton

Lord, I Need You - Matt Maher

All Who Are Thirsty - Vineyard Worship featuring Brenton Brown -

Your Name Is Holy - Vineyard Worship featuring Wendy O'Connell

I listened to a lot of Vineyard music in my early days as a Christian...
I always found their versions to be a cut above
.:)

Vineyard sang a song called The River is Here. Are you familiar with it?
