Hi there!

I am facing a massive dilemma in my life right now, I do music production for a living, I always worked with secular artists, even with some that would probably not deserved my services, you know, bad lyrics, bad singing... etc... I feel like Im being a total music biz mercenary all my life but right now Im having this big call telling me to go away from all those artists and start over focusing only in Gospel/Christian or at least positive music, I dont want to work with artists that have violent or dark lyrics, bad intentions, dont really value music, etc... the problem is that I already got clients that are not Christians but they are good people so I dont really know what to do, for the past 2 weeks I actually closed my old email and social media and totally started fresh with the idea of spending some time away from music prod and focus on health my heart first and then come back to biz with a clear mind and better heart but some of my regular clients started asking for my services this week and I dont really know what to do, some days I feel like telling them that Im taking a break so forget about me for a while and some other days I think its always a blessing to have work to do, even if they dont pay much or not what I think is fair, which is another dilemma too, sometimes I feel like Ive being used and sometimes I feel like is my call to help all these upcoming artists with their songs... hope Im making sense so far. The truth is that Im in the worst period of my life, my dad has cancer, I never had a good relationship with him but I decided to move back to my hometown to live with him now but I got no couple, no friends, no social life here so its being really tough...

What do you guys think about it? any advice or help would be welcome, cheers.

Msound my brother, I can figure out what it is that you’re going through,I don’t know whether you are a Christian but if you’re one,I can tell you something, you know when you are a Christian and you want to walk a life of impact, you are supposed to first know God’s will about your life, knowing this is what dictates what you do,what choices and decisions to make as you walk, secondly if there’s anything you do and you suspect God isn’t pleased with it,just leave it if your spirit is not free doing it,God will provide for all your needs in case it is your means of earning,if you can train yourself to entirely depend on God’s grace and love, you will always be watered all seasons, get off the system of the world because God has his system of provision,he will certainly take care of you.Proverbs 3:5-6

Trusting God’s love and living by his grace calls for total surrender of all your strength, abilities, potential and wisdom to God’s will but this isn’t something that is done one or two days, but built and learned over time

First thought: You won't be able to do it for a living any more. If you do Christian music you'll need to get a different job and do music on the side.

Second thought: As a music lover, PLEASE do this! :D :D :D I'd love to hear some of those Christian singers.

Third thought: Although there's no money in it, you'd be doing something you could look back on and say, "I'm glad I did that." You would be doing something worth doing.

Fourth thought: Ever try Reaper digital audio workstation? It's really cheap and VERY powerful. I mention it because you will probably need to strip down your toolkit and get rid of all the expensive stuff.

Fifth thought: If you do this, please let us know what your label is, or post some examples here for us to hear, or somehow let us know where we can find some of these Christian singers.

Lol... Gospel or secular... Worldly or praise and worship...
I recommend DEMOLISHING THOSE BARRIERS!!!
I've been a hard rockin' Christian soldier all my life!
The labels don't fit me, and even some holier than thou types are offended by me, but EVERYTHING I do is from a faith-based CHRISTIAN perspective!

Why should a REAL CHRISTIAN allow himself to be defined secular stereotypes?

I have been producing secular music for over 15 years now, I only did a couple of Christian albums, I feel like collaborating with artists with dodgy lyrics and accepting all kind of jobs as I always did with no filter, just the money, make me feel not like a music mercenary, I know thats what I am and I dont have a problem with that but make me feel a little confused and dirty and right now that Im experimenting the worst period of my life, online mixing is going really slow for me for the first time in seven years, I moved back to live with my dad cause he has cancer now and Im feeling really hopeless, I have no couple, I dont like living in my hometown, etc... I think is good time to spend a month or two trying to reform my heart and re connect with God, thinking about that I got the idea of stop working with secular artists or at least with those artists with bad intentions and dirty lyrics... hope this makes sense.

If you want to check my work I got a playlist here: https://rb.gy/qtjaxd

you need to listen to the Testimony of Phil Driscol. Listen we all work with those who are ungodly Daniel had to, Paul was in prison, and on and on it goes. Yet we are to shine our light. Pray and ask the Lord to help you. Don't suffer condemnation.

The gospel and secular dichotomy is often false. Christian people with Christian educations, lifestyles and opinions can and do still compose contemporary music, which is intended to be timely fine art, with content drawn from their personal and professional lives. It's a convention of recording that all Christian songs are hymns, masses, praises or lamentations, retellings of Bible stories or sung prayers in the forms of the Psalms. However, not all songs by Christians are about the Bible, and just because the artist's song is family, or patriotic, or work oriented, that song's mean it's "secular" at least not in the way that most people misunderstand that word today.

My two cents… I prefer Christian because it’s edifying to God and it’s positive and encouraging. I don’t get that same feeling with secular music.

I think that the difference is, a Christian song has a certain content. There are also songs that don't bother me, that are just timely or were composed by a musician who knew chords and scales as a melodic and harmonic work. I guess I wouldn't even, in practice, be able to actually identify with every musician, those are their experiences, their lives. But having said that, you can still judge a song on true and false, in terms of what the lyrics say. I think religiously it would be kind of like trying to apply the Hippocratic oath. It's not anti-Christian, is it? And if the scales harmonize...as in oh, wouldn't it be nice to have that much time, to just enjoy a symphony?
