Quartet For The End Of Time

...Messiaen was 31 years old when France entered
World War II. He was captured by the German army in June 1940 and imprisoned in Stalag VIII-A, a prisoner-of-war camp in Görlitz, Germany (now Zgorzelec, Poland)... The quartet was premiered at the camp, outdoors and in the rain, on 15 January 1941. The musicians had decrepit instruments and an audience of about 400 fellow prisoners and guards. Messiaen later recalled: "Never was I listened to with such rapt attention and comprehension."

...Messiaen wrote in the Preface to the score that the work was inspired by text from the Book of Revelation (Rev 10:1–2, 5–7, King James Version):
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire ... and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth .... And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever and ever ... that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished...

V. "Praise to the eternity of Jesus", for cello and piano.
Jesus is considered here as the Word. A broad phrase, "infinitely slow", on the cello, magnifies with love and reverence the eternity of the Word, powerful and gentle, "whose time never runs out". The melody stretches majestically into a kind of gentle, regal distance. In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1, King James Version)

This is the story of three Texas boys busy mindin' their own bidnis
when the Angel of the Lord appeared unto them saying:
"When the Winston Churchill's start firin' their Winston rifles in the sky from the Lone Star State,
drinkin' their Lone Star beer and smoking their Winston cigarettes.
You know the time is drawin' nigh when the Son shall be lifted on high".
We told them that didn't sound very Sunday-go-ta-meetin.
"What do you expect?" they said
"When God calls the crippled deaf and blind to lead the children of Israel to the promised land
"The children of Israel?" we asked
"Don't you boys know nothing? - The USA's the center of Jerusalem."

I hear the train a-coming.

I know not, even with friends reaching out
My thoughts have escaped.
So try and rest till I trample walls over, until land dries
Even now dark times have infiltrated so, we ask you with inhibitions to heed
Breathe Lord on our desperate attempts now, deliver freedom in response.
Experience a new death, victory awaits

Prophets on risen stars.
Open fierce skies make on lookers kneel.
Experiencing a death indeed.
Now my young heros everywhere advance rapidly toward Texas
Here at the troop headquarters enlist, dispatched angels remain knelt
Enduring rainy days and you will overcome, until land dries.

Stretch out our nights been easy, under prophet's orders.
Now until stars align lay low.
Just as was told.
We are here at last
And all prophecies of old shall come to

Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
Just as was told justice will unfold
The truth be told it will unfold

You're welcome, and thank YOU for introducing me to the world of 'noise.' Maybe we should have a whole thread devoted to 'End time music.' :)
Your video didn't play, but I managed to find another version. Much more 'swinging' than my music, but with the same eschatological feel to it (reminds me of 'the Doors,' kinda). There's this music from the OST of 'There Will Be Blood,' that reminded me of 'Louange à l'éternité de Jesus,' and now I can't help thinking about the movie whenever I hear Messiaen's piece. Dark movie with an almost biblical feel to it: there's a 'prophet' in that movie, by the name of Daniel Plainview: 'nomen est omen.'

(Cool thing: the vid is the movie in a nutshell)

You're welcome too. I especially like the 'Quartet' and 'Turangalîla' with its 'Joie du Sang des Étoiles'
(Joy of the Blood of the Stars)...

It makes me wanna joyfully smash things. ;)

while we're on the subject...

here is a link to the entire book of Revelation, word for word, set to music:

Armath Sargon | The Book of Revelation

it is a 'black metal' style, (properly, 'unblack' - Christian metal played in a style that sound like what is called 'black metal') which you may not appreciate, but here it is, nonetheless. altogether it's a little under 2 hours, in two parts, meant to be played together but separated for easier file transfer.

in the link you may stream them or download the two files for free.
i recommend playing it very loudly, and reading along as you listen.

Don't underestimate me sir, 1 Thessalonians 5:21 is my motto when it comes to music. ;)
I'll check it out when I have the time, thank you.

[SUP] 24 [/SUP]Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. [SUP]25 [/SUP]For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. [SUP]26 [/SUP]The last enemy to be destroyed is death. [SUP]27 [/SUP]For He “has put everything under His feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under Him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.[SUP]28 [/SUP]When He has done this, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put everything under Him, so that God may be all in all.

(1 Corinthians 15: 24-28 / NIV)

The Song of the Sibyl ... is a liturgical drama and a Gregorian chant, the lyrics of which compose a prophecy describing the Apocalypse, which has been performed at some churches of Majorca (Balearic Islands, Spain) and Alghero (Sardinia, Italy), and some Catalan churches, in Catalan language on Christmas Eve nearly uninterrruptedly since medieval times...

The lyrics stated here correspond with a Majorcan version of the song... The text is not standard, but late Medieval Catalan...:

You're right: interesting song.
But I'm not going to post it myself, because it has some doubtful lyrics.
(No need to discuss them here though).

For Here We Have No Continuing City (Johannes Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem)

For here we have no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
(Hebrews 13:14 / KJV)

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
(I Corinthians 15:51-55 / KJV)

Thou are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou has created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
(Revelation 4:11 / KJV)

I don't have the traditional background like yourselves but this is the music for the end times for me. It is a Keith Green classic from the 1977-1982 era of ministry but it is based on Mathew verses that speak of the Sheep and the Goats.

It doesn't really matter what background you have,
as long as your music is about the end times you're on topic. :)

Judgement Day (Der Tag des Gerichts)

Unlike the music of his contemporary J.S.Bach, the music of G.P.Telemann never brings me down, not even his composition about Judgement Day. Here's the ouverture and the first chorus with words from Jude:

... the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones, to judge everyone...
(Jude 1:14-15 / NIV)

... der HERR kommt mit vieltausend Heiligen, Gericht zu halten über alle...
(Judas 1:14-15 / Lutherbibel)
