I remember Day of Fire. Was a little dull for me.
And i believe i posted Harmony the other day. Though i haven't listened to them much as most of that style sounds redundant to me. Usually it's the vocals that lose my interest.
Day of fire was really just regular rock music. I got their first cd hoping for Christian full devil jacket. didn't get their second.

More FDJ With better message could have potential.

as for Harmony I must have missed that. I actually just found them the other day while messing around on YouTube.

I found two tracks by them I really like but the verdict is out on the others.

I do laugh at the people who listen to bands like em and say whoa this is head banger music. Good yes heavy not really.

Then again the ones who call that heavy may also call most of the music in tHis thread satanic.

Ugh...more metalcore, my soul weeps for you. It just gets sooooo boring to me. The only metalcore CD's I'm left with are my KsE, their newest album has some amazing messages in the songs which is why I like it, but the music is just so bland and boring.

I know what I could use? Some christian fantasy metal. Narnia had it going with their first album or two, I'd really like to see more though, something epic along the lines of Rhapsody of Fire and maybe they did songs in a fantasy based world that mirrored spiritual warfare...that's the kind of band I want to start! No one else is interested though :(

I've been confused as to what DwP is talking about after With Roots above and Branches Below. They had that EP with all the zombie crap on it (what does that mean.. I don't know).

I've been thinking of giving them another shot. They were awesome on with roots above and branches below.

This song, was awesome. I love the quote from it too about how with faith some minds are sand, but I prefer concrete.

I kind of prefer metalcore a lot... death metal excluded, I like that equally. Different strokes I suppose, until I give someone a stroke.

As for Killswitch Engage, when they had their original lead singer, I swear, they WERE a Christian band, even though they never came out and said it.

Make me feel serenity when all is revealed
So easy to look back at life and question
But I must seek the strength
To push forward
Want to see what's so beautiful inside
As we drink of life
Absolve me through your suffering
You teach me to inscribe
These words upon my heart
You cover me with the shadow of your hand
I will not lose myself in everything that tears me down
Because you stand by me
There's no one to blame for my transgressions

Seriously - you cover me with the shadow of your hand? You teach me to inscribe these words upon my heart. Both from scripture.

While we're on Killswitch Engage the lead singer actually did a Christian project a few years ago called Times of Grace.

yeah, know all about ToG. It was... metalcore.

LS isn't bad. Holy crap.. thrash solo! Ok... i just found new respect for this song haha. Aww, it was short. Still. Kind of a thrash meets old school metalcore. Kind of reminds me a little of Fasedown.

I probably know far more about Killswitch than you, not to mention the fact that the original lead vocalist is in the band again. Not saying it to be rude, but I was listening to them back before they were "cool" to listen to. Also, Times of Grace was technically not a christian project. Yes Jesse did vocals, but all the music and lyrics were written by Adam D. who had suffered from major back issues and started rethinking his faith, however he has yet to come out and say he is a christian, hopefully his behavior back stage has cleaned up some.

What exactly does death metal have to do with metalcore? I'd be far more into metalcore if they did something other than open chorded breakdowns and the song patterns weren't so predictable.

And better vocals. And tried to be original. In other words... another genre hahaha. The mainstream metal scene has been stagnant for so long, and metal core has been the primary 'metal' style dominating the scene for over a decade. I find it no coincidence that the style has changed so little, and there has been so little growth and change within metal core, and the overall metal community since metal core has become the dominating force. Metal core, to me personally, is the 'non metal heads metal'. There's a lot of 'i want to be metal, but not be metal' mentality behind it anymore. It didn't start out that way, but that's what it has become.
They also are so hung up on genre labels, that they spend more time trying to separate themselves by applying a label other than metal core, that they don't bother actually doing anything different with their music.

Love that sound from LS, it's a bit slow though. I hope the album has some faster tracks.

Killswitch engage is cool?

Half the people I've talked to thought they were too religious. I bailed on them after the end of heartache though as they weren't religious enough for me.

And that sucks about Times of Grace. Hadn't realized. I guess they were EXACTLY lke KSE then. They straddled the fence.

And the two genres have nothign to do with each other. I was saying metalcore was actually one of my favs, but death metal is an equal favorite for me. I guess I did write it in a confusing manner.

However, I expect to be lynched for my enjoying metalcore well, any day now lol.

But, I've got some more Christian fantasy metal for you!

This is 90 percent descriptions of sorcery in the Old Testament and the rest of it is rocking against sorcery.

I bid you come to me, I am your sanctuary
I will protect you from the stones they throw in malice
I am the morning star, the one you now see falling
I am the key to unlocking your new potential

see how they run in fear, see how they now will tremble
see how they burn away and feed your hungry demon soul
see how the power grows, see how the weak have fallen
see now why you must give yourself to the path they oppose

deceive them all, deceive the jokull masses
enslave them all, become their false messiah
you will absorb them all, you will become the power
and as the young will learn, they are the purest nectar
the face of gyan has long since passed away
let the owl possess you, moloch you will remain
your cremation of care will kill the light within you
your heart will die in time, your soul will never bleed again

and now you have jokull, you have your pawn cianan
you'll have vasilis as the day burns ever longer
do not be without fear, you are not yet immortal
your weakness lurks within the shadows you employ

the aura of a boy, a soul you can't destroy
a dread you must ignore or hope they will restore

retreating to the cursed land from wence I came
I've never felt a force that made my power fade

raise the dead! they now will serve you
raise the dead! this is your gift

Screw genres! The only way to create new ones is to ignore them and just do whatever comes naturally. Black metal, Death metal, Symphonic, Melodic, Orchestral, Progressive, Power, nu (eww), core (hard or metal variants), ...

There are enough genres out there it's almost like we've done to the church with denominations. And people who like one genre also refuse to talk to each other (kind of like we'e done with denominations).

As for metalcore being the non metal head's metal, you might be right as it seems to be the natural progression from rock music. I like it because I like it, but then again I'm not trying to impress anybody.

For me it usually starts with the lyrics. If I like the lyrics (whether I have to read them or not to get them the first time or two through) I find myself standing up saying "yes, yes, this is what I'm talking about right here."

I'm all for genres. A genre is simply an easy definition of a style. Metal is a genre, that encompasses many sub-genres. But i sure want to know if i'm listening to pop, metal, lounge, etc... Just saying 'music' and removing genre classifications is a bit absurd. And granted some of the sub-sub-sub-sub-sub genre things get overboard, i like knowing if a band is thrash, death, or whatever other style. People love to rant against labeling things, but without those labels people would have a lot harder time finding the things they enjoy.

Part of the reason the whole sing songy metalcore thing got so big was because of Killswitch and As I Lay Dying. When The End of Heartache came out it was a huge deal. They didn't sell as many as albums they did and play the shows they did without people listening, and more often than not it was just people jumping on the metalcore band wagon. I don't know how many people I met in that 2003-2004 era that were really just into the whole thing for the "cool" factor and had no genuine passion behind what they were doing.

I still thought Killswitch did an awesome cover of Dio's Holy Diver. Though I am not a huge fan of theirs.

Love the messages in lyrics, the music is boring though :p I was quite impressed that one of their new songs dealt with the subject of lust.

Lol see when the end of heartache came out I actually distanced from them quickly. The lyrics got a lot less fringe Christian IMO. Maybe that's why they got popular lol.

And I never really liked As I lay Dying.

I guess I'm the metalcore fan who doesn't like the defining artists of the genre? Story of my life lol.

Can I agree with you and disagree with you at the same time? I feel like a politician here in that yes, labels are important, but I also feel they aren't important at the same time.

Lust eh??

This is one of the few secular songs I keep around. One of the best anti-lust songs pretty much ever. And Bret isn't really straddling the fence like he did in his Voxis days. He's gone full out weird and I'm pretty sure not trying to send a completely Christian message (although he nailed it here).

3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,
2,2,2,2,
1!
You want it all right now!
(ULTRAnumb)
right now!
You want it full frontal, overstimulation.
So say a benediction,
For a new addiction,
In voyeuristic overdrive.
(Here comes the countdown)
3 - This is the new flesh,
2 - This is the open door,
1 - We?ve got everything you wanted.
You want it all right now!
(ULTRAnumb)
Right now!
(3, 2, 1)
Violated,
So degraded,
The show has just begun.
Dominated,
By all you hated,
This will make you ULTRAnumb.
3, 2, 1.
Reality's a plague, We're the medication.
A new manipulation,
Oversaturation,
Take advantage of what you deny.
(Here comes the countdown)
3 - So step right up and see,
2 - The possibilities,
1 - We are everything you wanted.
You want it all right now!
(ULTRAnumb)
Right now!
(3, 2, 1)
Violated,
So degraded,
The show has just begun.
Dominated,
By all you hated,
This will make you ULTRAnumb.
One confession is such perfection,
Your sweet repression can?t hide who you really are.
Say you love it!
Say you hate it!
Doesn't matter 'cause you're all the same!
Say you want it!
Say you need it!
Come and get it 'cause we love the shame!
Say you love it!
Say you hate it!
Just another one to suck the fame!
Don't pretend that you're better than this,
Malevolence goes both ways!
(3, 2, 1)
Violated,
So degraded,
The show has just begun.
Dominated,
By all you hated,
This will make you ULTRAnumb.
