Dad shoots laptop of rebellious daughter with his 45

I think what he had was righteous anger.

Not enough kids (respectfully) fear their parents. Parents should be the ones laying down the rules not them and this guy was true to his word with the consequences. So what if hes got a gun? He shot at a piece of electronics not a child or animal. I bet many a parent would love to get a gun licence just to experience the satisfaction of shooting at their kids xbox, laptop or iphone since they value those stupid machines more than having a normal conversation. Computer technology comes and goes, but teaching a daughter respect where its due? You've only got a short time to teach that lesson until they go off deciding whether or not they should do stupid things like getting drunk and having sex with any boy who tickles their chin... A parent who loves, disciplines. That girl doesn't know how lucky she is.

He's actually had to deal with the police and child protective services because people were calling in saying he was going to kill his daughter, police men told him "kudos" and he learned some nice parenting tips from the protective services, but no one is being arrested or yanked from thier hope.

The father wrote an open letter in response to the comments about his video. I am going to post it in the Family Forum with my own opinion of the issue.

That is if anyone cares.

Actually, that explains a lot. And so does the fact that he lives on a parcel of land that's outside city limits. Something tells me his daughter can probably skin a deer and open beer bottles with her teeth.

While I don't agree with what the daughter did. I don't agree with what the father did either. She is complaining about distance in the family, and the feeling of being a captive. All he did with this is enforce her feelings and anger towards him. Not to mention, he violated her privacy and stamped out her freedom of speech. And I am willing to bet he is big about the US constitution.

But again, the daughter is being a brat.

Another thing that really bothers me about this...what about her side of the story? Its not like she can hop online and defend herself now is it. Maybe her post was more truthful than his, and he lords over his household like tyrant. Ugh, I could rant about this all day.

I used to think that too, but I read something with her response. Apparently she's ok with it. The link is in one of Violakat's posts on page 1.

the fact that the teenagers support him and the critics are mostly adults should tell you something about the maturity of his course of action...

and it isn't surprising that the generation that regularly plays violent video games and has seen their peers bring guns to school doesn't have a problem with someone using a gun in such a cavalier manner...

these accusations seem credible...and i noticed that the father's claims in his 'open letter' about being visited by police only to be commended by them contradicts the police department's statement that no officers have been to his house...

honestly i am not surprised that someone who dreamed up such a thing in the first place would turn out to be just another loser with a complex...

Rachel the police department sent no officers to his house because he's not in their jurisdiction. He's outside the city limits. So it was the county sheriff's department that sent officers.
