ha ha ha... unbelievable. The soldier reference was about serving GOD. It was an ANALOGY. As Christians, we are spiritual soldiers, not civilians.

Dear God.
The Jews thought their Messiah would be a political figure who'd save them from Godless Romans. Thus when the Messiah came they rejected Him

Christians today are looking for a worldly ruler to save them from Godless liberals.

I think I hear the echo of history repeating itself by spiritual soldiers fighting a physical battle.

Just a quick philosophical note:

Is "The Lesser of 2 Evils" a legitimate choice?

I'll keep this simple.
Some people argue that if you have to choose between "the lesser of 2 evils", that's not a choice at all, and you should opt out.
Legally, you can certainly do whatever you like.
But philosophically, this is just a pure logic error, a bit of overworked emotion.
Why?

3 Reasons:
1.) You aren't really "opting out" of evil: you aren't opting out in order to receive good, because you're still getting one of those evils - you're just allowing someone else to choose how bad things will be. And it might well be the "worse" of 2 evils.
This is all pretense; you aren't opting out of evil, and you certainly aren't stopping the evil. When you "pretend" to opt out, you aren't really opting out, and you aren't accomplishing anything... it's all imaginary... the EVIL STILL COMES... you're just letting someone else choose how bad it will be.
2.) The "lesser of 2 evils" is still "lesser", it is a choice for "less evil"... and "less evil" is ALWAYS a GOOD CHOICE.
It is always good to have less evil. It is literally absurd to contradict this... it is absurd, and it is unbiblical.
3.) Finally: We make the same kind of choice every day, all day long, about nearly everything in life, and it doesn't bother us at all... but it suddenly bothers us (hypocritically) when the issue is politics.
We make this kind of decision about everything in life.
There is no "perfect" anything... we often choose one thing over another because it is "less bad."
We do this all day, every day, about everything.
We do it all day, every day... and it NEVER causes us any huge moral dilemma.

Let's try a simply example:
Is your insurance perfect... did you choose it because it was perfect? So... the price was perfect, the coverage was perfect, the deductible was perfect, the multi-page set of legal stipulations and caveats was perfect, and the company is above reproach in every way, and they've never cheated anyone ever in their history? Of course not. But you still chose your insurance.

I could list a thousand examples. We constantly face various choices where neither choice is PERFECT... but we still choose.
We do this all day, every day... because it's necessary and practical.
We choose things, all day long, which are imperfect.... we CHOOSE THE THING THAT IS LESS BAD.

Yet, when it comes to politics, our moral virtue (real or imagined) works itself into such a froth that we're literally frozen with outrage... our logical mind is just stopped, stopped dead, in a catatonic state. Our brains just shut down.

Conclusion:
1.) When I am faced with a choice between something bad, and something less bad.... I'm going to chose whatever is "less bad."
2.) So is everyone else... they do it every day.
3.) But when it comes to politics, people become so emotional they turn off their rational mind... that same rational mind that serves them so well 5 minutes later when they're buying insurance.

.
One thing among many that the anti-voters get wrong is that they think that if you support your political system, you're substituting it for God. How they arrived at this is beyond me. You can, and should, walk and chew at the same time.

You're only going to get frustrated trying to open their eyes. When fascism arrives, they won't even look in the mirror, they'll blame prophecy, the world, the devil... anything but themselves.

Fascism is here ... hiding under the veil of "we're the party of God" (which they clearly are not).

I'm not actually against politics, I'm just against thinking you are supporting Godly values when you are, in fact, not.

I think the deceit in the Republican party was on display in this election. I heard they pumped $40 million into Oz's candidacy and it destroyed it. On the other hand they didn't give Fincham a dime and he is in a nail biter.

I also think many people have been deceived into thinking the problems will all go away if they can just vote out the Democrats. The problems are like cancer that has been growing since Eisenhower was president. The most you can hope for is human justice on criminals. I think MTG is a good person and my hope and prayer is that she will be successful at her job. But her job is not to be a savior, so anyone thinking any election will bring salvation is greatly mistaken.

So

You are presented with a Playboy video, which shows naked women, and a Pornhub video, which shows outright sexual intercourse.
You watch the Playboy because it is "less evil", because you think you HAVE to choose between one or the other.

Another thought

When the "lesser evil" says it is of God, when they clearly promote ungodly principles, does that not then make them the greater evil?

Choose the lesser evil if you feel you must. But don't think for a minute you are choosing the Godly path. Because God does NOT promote evil at ANY level.
You presented a false analogy, a straw-man... so your argument is logically invalid.

EXPLANATION:

1.) In some things we can choose between GOOD & EVIL. In some things we can genuinely opt out of evil.

2.) In some things we cannot choose between good and evil because "THE GOOD" isn't an available choice, or because "WHATEVER YOU HAPPEN TO CONSIDER GOOD" isn't an available choice... sometimes the only choice we have is between BAD and LESS BAD.

3. Therefore, your analogy is a false analogy: you presented #1 as a rebuttal, but the conversation was about #2.
a.) In politics we often have 2 bad choices, and we have NO OTHER CHOICES... and ONE OF THE 2 WILL BE CHOSEN.
b.) In your analogy there are 2 bad choices, but there is also another choice to NULLIFY them by not picking them... and thus NEITHER OF THE 2 WILL BE CHOSEN.

CONCLUSION:
1.) Presenting a false analogy, and thereby straw-manning my argument... is not a logically valid rebuttal.
2.) I'm not upset with you, and I'm sure you're a good person, and I'm sure you're a very devout Christian... but an invalid argument is still an invalid argument.
3.) I'm not going to respond to any more comments on this topic: I said what I had to say; it was clear; it was explained; it was rational; it was biblical; and whether or not it's popular I think it stands easily on weight of logic.

I hope you have a wonderful day, and a wonderful weekend.
God Bless

Voting is a waste of time. When will people realize politicians are ten steps ahead of the voter. By the time the voter realizes a change is needed, the politician has already changed the goalpost. That's how things work in the world.

There's a book going around at Trump Rally's claiming that Donald Trump is the second coming of Christ so there's that

This is the smartest route you can take with his ilk. There are about 5 or so I can think of here (according to my count so far).

Hey Maxwell, I would like to respond to this because I like discussing things with you because you are reasonable and not closed minded like the most.

1. First let’s discuss why not voting is better than voting in our current political climate of a 2 party system.

When I don’t vote I get to make fun of both parties because I’m not invested in either. But when I do vote for one, then I have nothing to complain about when my team lost. It’s their fault and my fault for picking them.

2. Suppose I do vote. I live in a blue state. So if I vote for Donald Orange Trump or Mickey Mouse, then my vote won’t matter because it will be invalidated by the majority or the electoral college. So why vote?

3. When the majority run things well, there’s no need to vote. For example I have moved 3 times in my life when the majority got stupid and didn’t run things well. So I’m not gonna waste my time or my children‘s lives by staying in a place where dumb majority rules and try to “make my voice heard “ or “vote’. No, I simply move to another area where the majority has not lost common sense And they know how to run things.

4. All and all voting seems a bit pointless to me in USA because you can simply choose 50 states to fit your lifestyle and live a happy life.
And when America is done totally in 50 states it’s time to move to Canada or something. :) But I don’t see that happening for centuries.
‘USA is a great place to live and it’s not so bad as people make it. There’s a lot of choices here and a lot of abundance.
Voting seems like a wasteful emotional investment in sports teams to me.

let me know what you think.
thank you.

Hey Eli, I didn't see this before I left the thread... so here's a quick response.

1. I was NOT addressing voting in general, and all the reasons it might be good or bad. I was ONLY addressing one very specific argument, and that was the "lesser of 2 evils" argument, and whether or not it made sense.

(With the "lesser of 2 evils" argument, there are some strict logic problems. Other arguments might be perfectly fine.)

2. There might be many other reasons, good or bad, for not voting, and each of those is probably worthy of discussion... but I never intended to get into all of that.

3. If you want to talk about your personal reasons, we can do that privately. Just send me a pm.

It's always nice chatting with you Eli. Take care.
: )

Well, that's your excuse to laugh out loud. Or cry out loud. Take your pick.
It's not a matter of laughing or crying, it's being concerned for your brothers and sisters who are falling away from the Truth as predicted in Matthew 24, Romans 16, 2 Peter 2, Mark 13, and 1 Timothy 4. Among others.

I saw where AOC was upset because she had to pay $8 a month to have her Twitter account verified. I get it, if you want to have a million phony bot accounts $8 a month can get pretty expensive. But I have an idea! As long as you are going to get taxpayers to pay $10,000 per person to forgive student loans for all those college kids who voted for Democrats, why not throw in another $10,000 to verify 100 bot accounts on Twitter as well? This way you get to steal elections and manipulate the news and it will all be paid for by conservatives!

It is a brilliant strategy. If a conservative is just a liberal who got mugged, a democrat is just someone on welfare. Put all the conservatives on welfare and you will win back the house!

Everybody knew Jussie Smollett was lying
Trump supporters in chicago?
Not...
Summary of the reporting in Wikipedia: On January 30, 2019, public figures expressed support for Smollett on social media.[18][36] Entertainment industry figures, including Shonda Rhimes and Viola Davis, tweeted their outrage over the attack and support for Smollett.[36] Democratic Senators and presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Cory Booker both described the attack as an attempted modern-day lynching.[37] Booker urged Congress to pass a federal anti-lynching bill co-sponsored by him and Harris.[36][38] In an interview with April Ryan of AURN, President Donald Trump was asked about Smollett being attacked and said, "I think that's horrible. It doesn't get worse."[39] Smollett faced skepticism regarding his claim of being attacked;[40] he responded by saying that he believed that, if he had said his attackers were Mexicans, Muslims, or black people, "the doubters would have supported me much more ... And that says a lot about the place that we are in our country right now."[40]

Let's assume that Dude653 is right and everyone knew that this was a hoax. First, why would MAGA radicals be walking the streets of Chicago at the wee hours of the morning and second how would they even know who Jussie Smollett was, and third the so called attack seems "idiotic". So then, knowing this was a hoax why did all these people come forward supporting him, amplifying the story? To me it is worse that Kamala Harris and Cory Booker knew this story was false (or at the very least highly suspect) and yet ran with it.

Knowing a story is false and promoting it anyway is journalistic malfeasance and is much more disturbing than simply being duped and being a useful idiot.
