It may not be that they realize the very large potential losing money, but also health risks. Most of these kids have diseases that we've eradicated from the US and they aren't being screened or treated properly. They're just shipped out into the public. When immigrants from Ireland and other European countries came over during the Potato Famine, they were screened for serious diseases and anyone who had even the slightest hint of a disease was isolated and treated. We have better technology, today so I don't see why we can't.

These are clearly two very liberal/progressive states.

So what does their reaction to taking on these refugee children tell us?

It tells us liberals/progressives are fine with "spreading the wealth around", and helping others out, until it hits their own wallet and resources.

It's like democrats hate all that is morally right sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from a republican. But wow.
