Texans demand apology from Florida lawmaker who called Texas “a crazy state”
WASHINGTON — Texas Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives issued a joint statement Tuesday: “Don’t mess with Texas.”
That came in response to comments made by Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings, who called Texas “a crazy state” during a Rules Committee hearing Monday a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
[Rep. Michael] Burgess [of Texas] asked that Hastings apologize to the state and its residents, but Hastings refused.
“You will wait until hell freezes over for me to say anything in an apology. I will apologize to you if I was directing my comments to you. I was commenting about the state that you happen to be a resident of,” Hastings said.
