I think this all depends on your worldview. People who tend to have a negative view towards assistance tend to be very independent minded...whereas, people who need assistance come from backgrounds where independence is limited and they have no choice but to depend on others in order to survive. The people who are actually getting government benefits have to prove they are seeking for a job on a frequent basis. But sadly, those who do have a job eventually won't have enough money to care for themselves. Are there people who take advantage of the system? Absolutely. But there are people who do need it. I don't see reducing the amount as the solution to the problem. That's just similar to trying to cover it up with a bandaid. The root of the problem is deeper than that. The needs of the poor do need to be addressed. Most of them are poor to no fault of their own. I think the situation would be improved if the church would build up a stronger network of food pantries. Personally, I don't believe the government should be trying to play the role of the church in helping people. They've done a poor job with it altogether. But if the church isn't willing to help them, then the government will obviously "fill in the need" and exploit it. Government aid for welfare like TANF and SNAP and WIC are things that are necessary a lot of times. I don't like the idea of those being cut when there are many other things are government is funding that shouldn't even be happening: funding other countries' wars with which we are not involved with, science programs that are not issues of life and death. There is plenty of it that can be reduced without cutting out aid.

''The needs of the poor do need to be addressed.''

Yes, its called a job. There are less jobs because of the bloated government charity train.

I will say it again. Those who truly need charity should get it. The problem is not fraud...there will always be fraud.

The problem is the ideal of getting ''free'' stuff from the government without any remorse. Worse yet, a sense of entitlement to it because...

I breathe therefor I am entitled to everything without effort on my part.

The evil rich guy has nice stuff, why can't I?

The government fosters the idea that people can do anything they want to, unlimited sex outside of marriage, drug and alcohol use, the lack of financial planning or job training, and no matter how irresponsible I am, the government is there to bail me out.

This MUST stop. These ideals are creating vast poverty.

The attack on the family is core. From abortion to gay special priviledge. Sex outside of marriage. Divorce. The list goes on and on...but the same ideology that fosters these destructive behaviors is the same ideology that wants unlimited charity.

THEY GO HAND IN HAND.

There is a plague in our land. Its called no personal responsibility.

I have to state this again, sorry....

THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE INFIRM, WIDOWS OR ORPHANS.....THOSE WHO TRULY NEED CHARITY.

The government is not the answer. Its really the problem.

Most of Colorado is relatively conservative (landmass) unfortunately the population center which is a miniscule percentage of the landmass tends towards the left. Basically the Denver metropolitan area runs the state which is why there is growing support in some counties to seceed and create a 51st state. Rural counties are getting tired of Denver cramming laws down their necks that albeit might be a good idea in a metro area are ridiculous in rural counties.
Oh I am well aware of that fact. I was a Field Director for Mesa County for the RNC last year. I miss Grand Junction terribly.

The Western Slope is, far and away, the better portion of that state.

I have a mixed opinion. I lived near Grand Junction the first year I was in CO and loved it there. For the past 14 years I've lived in Co Springs and love it here too. Fortunately Co Springs is still relatively conservative. If you're ever in the state again drop me a line.

Always the most vulnerable people that get targeted.

To the list of foods to store.. rice and pasta are good energy foods with good use by dates.

You may not see the food prices change for a little while. But I have been adding extra of the items that have a long pantry life. The food that is already on shelves the store bought many months before when prices were low. As the store starts to replace the items, as their sold, you should see the prices of food go up 5-20 percent. The stores themselves are having to buy the food at a higher price. Buy the goods while they are low.

Will do, my friend. Same goes for you if you find yourself in VA!

My apologies, when I think of the Front Range my thoughts immediately go to the Boulder and Denver area.

El Paso county is a different animal for sure. So is Castle Rock. Larimer was, but I think it is slowly becoming Boulder II.
