Burning since last weekend, the fire continues to spread. Without a substantial rain, it won't stop, and it is feeding itself now. The fire storm is creating lightening, with up to 10 new fires a day being started. The wind continues, fed by the firestorm.

Over 88,000 people have been evacuated, but between 20,00 to 40,000 went north on Highway 63, which goes no where! These people are either without vehicles, or they have vehicles which have run out of gas, or they are unable to go south on Highway 63, the only highway out of town, because of the intense flames on each side of the road. West Jet and the military have been flying people out, but there are such a huge number of people, it is going to take a long, long time to get them out.

It is the worst disaster in Canadian history, except for maybe the ship blowing up in Halifax Harbour, which was loaded with munitions during WWI. Damage is estimated to be in the billions, depending upon what is burnt down until they can get the fire under control.

The fire grew to 101,000 hectares on Friday, said Alberta Wildfire Manager Chad Morrison. It remained wrapped around the west and southern edges of the city. If Fort McMurray were the face of a clock, flames surrounded it from the numbers four to 11.The fire, which had been menacing the oilsands capital since the weekend, rode a rapid shift in winds Tuesday afternoon to cut through the city on an east-west axis. It divided the main road and sent approximately 88,000 residents fleeing in opposite directions under a mandatory evacuation order.

Aided by high winds, scorching heat and low humidity, the fire grew from 75 square kilometres Tuesday to 100 square kilometres on Wednesday. By Thursday it was almost nine times that at 850 square kilometres — roughly equivalent to the size of Calgary. By Friday it has reached 1,000 square kilometres.

“I do expect that there’s a high potential that this fire could double in size by the end of the day tomorrow, ” Morrison said Friday afternoon.

However, winds shifted to out of the southwest and they were expected to push the flames away from the community into the forest. Morrison said that was good news for the Gregoire area and Nexen’s Long Lake facility.

Here is the link to the above quote. There are many videos, and some showing the flames and/or the damage and devastation.

Please pray for Fort MacMurray and Alberta! Thanks!

PS. Sorry, this news is not about American politics!

I think it's weird that it's barely a blip on the drudge report.

Those who die apart from Christ face an even worse eternity. Only God can send the rain.
