[h=3]God hates flags? Protesters fight prosecution for displaying American flag outside Westboro Baptist Church.[/h]

The members of Journey 4 Justice don’t much care for the tactics of the Westboro Baptist Church (that’s the “God Hates Fags”/“Thank God for Dead Soldiers” group). They therefore sometimes counter-demonstrate at Westboro demonstrations and sometimes assemble on the sidewalk near the Westboro building in Topeka, holding American flags. To quote the brief that I’ll quote more below, “Journey 4 Justice members do not stand on Westboro property; do not yell, chant or display any written messages; do not obstruct access to Westboro’s property; and do not engage the members of Westboro in any way.” They just display flags outside the church. But because of this, four Journey 4 Justice members were convicted ...Read more

How come the US seems to breed weird cults? By the way you typed ''God hates Fags'' which I thought was American slang for Homosexuals. In the UK its slang for Cigarettes. Maybe its true about God in both cases.

these people have about 12 people in their group.... I don't get why they matter to anyone, expect those that want to use them to insult the faith....which is what the devil wants.

Yeah, I agree with you...Anyone should be able to see that those people are in no way associated with God...They go completely against his teachings.

I don't see why they are getting so much publicity...I think the media should totally disregard them, and that would put an end to their public displays. They are only performing those displays for the publicity so that they can try and get their twisted views out there.

I'm from a small town in KY. They were supposed to come here a few years back to protest the services of a deceased soldier. The town rallied together and showed their respect and support for the soldiers family. I think it was like a 10 mile area from the funeral home to where the soldier was to be buried. Cars lined the side of the road for that whole 10 miles. No one knows if Westboro came through here or not. There was a tour van with tinted windows. If it was them, I think that they knew there wasn't going to be a warm welcome. So there was no protest of the funeral or burial services and no big media attention for them here.

By cults do you mean the Westboro Baptist Church or the flag-worshipping Conservative Statists on their sidewalk?

Either way, we do breed some crazies here.

It's the fault of the mass media. They give these rubes airtime because the "elites" believe and want their viewers to believe that this is a picture of American Christianity.

Christians would be better off ignoring this evident slight, but we respond. Usually in a way that makes it look like we have something to hide.

I suppose there is a bright side on two fronts.

1. Westboro is not blowing up, shooting people, or even threatening to do so.

2. Evangelicals, being quick to denounce Westboro, set up a contrast with Muslims who are not so quick to denounce their supposedly fringe elements.
