I feel about 95% sure that a chip is not the mark of the beast, but it's scary enough I would refuse it even if it meant my job.

No but it comes with different operating systems. If you're a mac guy or a pc guy, fear not....it will interface with your fridge.

So, when the chip fails, you'll have to sever then reattach the hand to perform a restart? ;)

Well, whatever it is severely malfunctions because it causes a grievous sore that won't heal.

That would be my initial concern. The product has not been in use long enough to determine what the long-term consequences might be.

There's no need for this chip considering the vast majority of us carry one around with us that works just the same.

There are so many two-part equations in the kingdom of God. We are told not to take the mark whether it be tattoo, chip or whatever. But the mark in and of itself is actually harmless. It's the denial of God and worshipping of the beast that goes with the mark, that makes the mark harmful. Like it's the prayer that makes the fasting powerful. Or the confession that makes cleansing possible. Or the staying steadfast in God that makes salvation eternal. Pay attention to God's conditional 'if' 'and' and 'with's. It means that for one part to be true, the other part has to be as well.

In the article, it says that other uses for this embedded chip in your hand at this company will be to buy food at the cafe etc... It appears to be voluntary NOW, but we all know how that works!

BBC News - Office puts chips under staff's skin
"The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great {is} that darkness!
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

I would quit and/or be fired for not wanting to be "chipped". That's the thing with people my age or older (that I've talked to): we all know that it's getting out of hand; that there's no real need for this type of thing. Sadly, the kids/teens of today's generation, and eventually their kids, have and will grow up with this type of technology being common place. It's all just an easier way for the government to keep tabs on you 24/7. I find it stunning that most people's reaction is, 'Eh, OK. If you say so...'
