Really cool news right here.

I was just watching a video about a week a go made by NHK (Japanese media) about the history of the shinkansen. Good stuff!

Not only is the sheer speeds of the bullet trains impressive, but also to note is how relatively safe they are by comparison to other modes of transportation.

To be quite frank I am not a trainspotter or anything. Not to underwrite the impressive technical feats here, but I personally find more interest in the human element to this. For example the morale building, the redemption from engineering lethal weapons to making peaceful technology that benefits everyone, a common ground between Far West and Far East civilization, and pragmatically fixing everyday problems (in this case traffic and travel).

Good news and topic of discussion indeed.
