This is an unremarkable story, but tales like this really get to me.
A woman with a large cart full of items at a dollar store lets the guy behind her in line for the checkout go ahead of her, because he's only buying a couple items. A small gesture, but then he beckons her to come to the cash and he pays for items in her cart totaling something like $38. The story reports that the woman is all choked up recounting the story....tears.
As a Christian stories like this tell me that God is written on our hearts. What did the guy in line do to deserve the kindness of being allowed to cut in front of this woman? I would say nothing....she simply did it out of common courtesy, she has a cart full of items and she is simply being polite. I've done it and I'm sure most of us have.
What happens next is the Christian Gospel exemplified for me. Like this woman we've done nothing to merit a gift so great as our salvation....I'm not comparing salvation to $38 in dollar store items though of course. But I do think the comparison, and the reason stories like this can touch our souls and cause us to tear up....its because God has written His love on our hearts.
And with so much contentious news out there, so much hate and division....we need stories like this.
