Bell suggested that instead of transforming the world, a "ghettoized, Evangelical subculture" has instead turned people away from Christ.
I don't think any Christian can disagree that the modern evangelistic culture coming from mainstream America has turned people away from Christianity in record droves. I don't think there has been any other point in history where so many people have been turned off Christianity by the behaviour of the Right Wing.
I think it goes back to the Vietnam war and Hippy culture.
Kind of disturbing that we learnt Richard Nixon the Republican candidate committed treason (with the Vietnam war) to win the election. Yet it's 2013 and mainstream Christians want people to support the Republicans.
Get politics out of religion and the people will return.
Or keep tearing apart Christianity.
