It will be interesting what these "new war powers" will detail, but from what I've read thus far they sound pretty broad.

Obama faces tough sell to get new war powers to fight IS - The Denver Post

The language seems to leave open any amount of ground troops if needed, the war would not be limited by any geographic location, which means they can make war globally. And the language is not limited to ISIS only....but to any other group that might be an offshoot of the terror group.

It could also lead to ANY group ANYwhere that he deems a threat... whether abroad or CONUS (Continental US). It could also be possible... maybe even likely... that we find ourselves in a situation that elections could be suspended altogether, which would keep him in office. If he feels it necessary he could also impose martial law. If that is the case then he is going nowhere any time soon.

Think of all the possibilities open to him then.

Watching the news the last couple of weeks I heard a couple of EU law makers mention that the war on terror is not just a war on extremists, but also a war on an ideology. Now I have no sympathy for the devil, but when leaders of the world mention a war on ideologies, then that should be of concern for even Christians. Knowing what prophecy says concerning the upcoming war against the Lamb and His followers, world governments could also slap a label on other religious ideologies besides that of Islam.

New broad war powers could open up a whole new can of worms.

Congressional leaders have encouraged Obama to come to them asking for such............HOWEVER..........lest anyone think otherwise.............he does NOT need Congressional approval to act against ISIS or ISIL whatever folks are calling them now. The Constitution gives him the power to act against such as these.......

He is nowhere near as stupid or inept as people think. He had a plan and making sure it comes to pass. And people are in line to hold the door open for him.

The article stated.....Quote "Obama so far has relied on congressional authorizations that former President George W. Bush used to justify military action after 9/11. Critics say the White House's use of these authorizations to fight IS is a legal stretch at best. The president earlier insisted he had the legal authority to deploy 2,763 U.S. troops in Iraq to train and assist Iraqi security forces, and conduct ongoing airstrikes against targets in Iraq and Syria. More recently, the president has said he wants a new authorization, but has not released details."

Didn't they just pull all their troops out of Afghanistan?

Why would they want to send them all back there for?

This is not our war.

The War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war. The resolution was passed by two-thirds of Congress, overriding a presidential veto. It has been alleged that the War Powers Resolution has been violated in the past, for example, by President Clinton in 1999, during the bombing campaign in Kosovo. Congress has disapproved all such incidents, but none has resulted in any successful legal actions being taken against the president for alleged violations.[SUP][2][/SUP]

It will still be interesting what these new powers detail, and the wording used. Perhaps Obama is going to liberate the world like Bush did with Iraq. (how did that work out) :)

The only thing he needs congress for is the money to pay for the military interventions. He knows we will not abandon our troops but will supply them.

For the cause of Christ
