Do you agree with President Trump that teachers to be armed with pistols or rifles to protect themselves against any crazy trigger happy individuals?
I understand the logic, but IMO the system we have should be improved rather than creating a completely new one with more variables. Schools here for example already have police on campus. It's not like the shooter doesn't know cops are in the vicinity - I doubt arming civilian teachers would be a greater discouragement.

The FL shooting was a failure of the current system, not the lack of one.

Yes. Absolutely.

Those teachers who wish to be armed, and who go through training in tactics, etc, absolutely should be able to be armed.

Or, if a school district prefers, and can afford it, armed guards should be hired and stationed at or near access points to the school.

The silly notion that "we should not have to have armed guards at school" is simply ludicrous.

If we have armed guards at every OTHER location where "precious" items are located (banks, museums, sporting events ?) how silly is it to NOT have armed guards protecting our CHILDREN, for crying out loud?
Why should they have to pay them? In the U.S. students are required by law to attend school, so the government should provide free protection for them. It would be a good place to train new younger safety personnel-- they should be discreet, not walk around with uniforms and rifles, but, enough was enough a long time ago--

It's only a matter of time until one of these schools have a mass shooting.

Until we identify the real causes of these disasters, and address the causes, we will continue to see the same problems.

I would love to see an unbiased scientific study of each mass shooter of the past twenty years.
many of them are hardened anti-social individuals, who slowly slide into the abyss-- and/or participate at some subconscious-level, or even spiritual level, until they either willingly and knowingly choose evil, or are taken over by it. If you look at their faces, most of them look like they are possessed by the devil--seriously.

I can LEGALLY conceal carry a firearm around kids all day on park playgrounds and whatnot but I can't conceal carry as a teacher where mass shootings happen most frequently? #libertarianshavebrains

BS. do you know how big a typical school campus is? PLUS the officer on the scene was a coward who waited outside of the school for 4 minutes while shots were being fired. The difference between shooting up a building with 10 armed individuals vs. a building with 1 armed individual is huge. It is exponentially harder to do.

So add 9 police officers to your hypothetical.

It doesn't matter if the site is pro-gun or not,and I didn't actually know that it was. The questions still stand irregardless. You are coming from a biased opinion also. And Wikipedia is hardly an authoritative site to use either if we're going to nit pick. Not trying to be nasty, this is a hot debate. We all agree something needs to be done, instead of talking circles.Which is the best move is the question.
The site that you use is as an explicit agenda.
What is more important, the article that you copy is virtually fact free. If I did not
believe that you do it in good faith, I would think that you are making fun of me
by referring to some nonsensical website.

The only fact it contains is that Clinton signed that amendment into law. As if that meant that
it is a good law.

Apart from that the article is a long and boring exercise in a well known rhetorical trick.
You want to object to A. Since you have no real argument, you put forward a long
list of unrelated hypotheticals: "oh you want A, what about B, C, D..."

You write "which move is the best is the question" but oppose doing research on which is the best move?

You are hinting that your biased opinion is the right one. I'm saying so far all we have heard is opinion,we do not know. Nothing Im seeing as far as studies on this, unbiased studies have yet been done. The site asks some good questions, which you refuse to consider because of your biased opinion.

So you're saying that every school should have 10 police officers present at all times, everyday, patrolling up and down the hallways, that spring up from Florida's magical endless budget???? Rather than allowing teachers that are already legally able to carry guns around kids all day OUTSIDE of schools with their own CCL permits to just carry INSIDE schools as well?

How efficiently Leftist.

IGun control works everywhere! But you have to have it! Americans need to stop believing all the propaganda and lies, that guns don’t kill people, only the bad guys will have the guns, if you have gun control; or your own government is coming to get you.

I can’t bear to watch the news, because of a real fear that tomorrow or maybe the next day, more guns will be used to kill students, party goers, night clubbers, or maybe people in hospitals, people in a book store, or in a park, Walmart or MacDonald’s somewhere in America!

The only answer is the plain truth that works for Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe. Gun restrictions!
It's interesting that pro-gun control people always point to Canada, Australia, etc for their proof that gun control dramatically reduces (if not eradicates) gun violence. They never point to Mexico which has similarly strict gun control and one of the highest gun violence rates, or Switzerland which has very high gun ownership (per capita) and very little gun violence.

Of course all of these nations that have severely restricted or eliminated private ownership of firearms didn't have that pesky little 2nd Amendment in their constitutions either. That obnoxious couple of sentences will continue to hinder gun control advocates as long as it is in place and our founding fathers intentionally made it very difficult to amend our constitution. A Constitutional amendment has to be passed by a super majority (2/3) in both the House and Senate and then ratified by 3/4 of the states.

I believe no need to arm the teachers. enhancing the school security and modifying the school rule about harassment and bullying are the best solutions for the problem.

I believe the shooter was bullied the reason he run amok.

There's so much inherently wrong with their culture, that it runs so deep, in upbringings in the home, the quality of the education system and the values for weapons in the country at large. This all contributes to the vast problems they have. However till they acknowledge the truth, they're not interested in putting their guns second, nothing in their society will change.

We should never put our guns second, and here's why. EVERY government falls into eras of tyranny (both of ours are actually in the beginning stages of falling into one right now, for example), and then either implodes or revolts (resets). This is a natural pattern for all governments. The founders of America were well versed in ancient history and understood this concept. The second amendment was created for the very specific purpose of war/revolution, which is why Americans should never compromise on their right to bear arms. They should instead SOLELY focus on trying to modify our culture and social structures that create gun violence.

When our governments eventually fall into their eras of tyranny (as all governments do), you will be forced to watch your loved ones swallow whatever insanity your government enforces on them, while I will have the option of defending mine. Americans don't "love" their guns as Aussies and Brits love to put it. We just understand how helpless nations are that don't have them.

I asked my friend who is a NYPD cop and a Trump Supporter. He said arming teachers is a dumb idea and only make things worse. He also said the cop who didn't go in the school should be fired.

No offense...but he IS an NYPD officer...AND a Trump supporter.... so....that's 2 things to discredit his ability to make good judgement calls :p

I will accept armed teachers only if they have completed a police academy and the minimum probation requirements of a police officer. If we are going to arm anyone in a school, they must be trained to react properly.

The last thing we need is a teacher erroneously shooting students during an active shooting incident.

I just turned '71' years old - hub will be '70' this year -
the mere thought of 'guns when we were in school' is ludicrous to us when we think of 'way back when', =
but not today!!! teachers and students, all victims in these horrific situations which keep growing
and growing and at such an accelerated pace - the Love of Life is becoming a thing of the past -
it truly seems and is, 'dog eat dog', and may the best at being evil win', and God be damned in
their deluded spirits...

^This guy gets it. That's exactly what police departments in FL are trying to put into motion and it is an amazing idea.
