Okay, lets put it in context:

Hitler --> used chemical weapons to kill some of his own people
Assad --> alleged to use chemical weapons to kill some of his own people

How does bringing Hitler into the equation help his whatever point he is trying to make? What IS Spicer's point?!

He tripped over his own tongue on this one. Bad comparison. He was trying to make a point about evil and fell on his own sword. Sorry is all that he can say.

No as far as the left saying he needs to be fired? That hypocrisy is hilarious. These people never stand with Israel, only when it looks good for them. They were behind Obamas push to make it impossible for Israel to defend itself. Total hypocrisy.

Again. 13 million! And many of them, including quite a few Jews, were "his own people."
Thanks for being the first poster to bring this up. It completely makes "the context" irrelevant... The fact is that Hitler used chemical weapons against his own people just like he believes Assad did.

Right, Spicer is human and is entitled to make mistakes just like I am. I hope he cleared it up for everyone and understands why it was very idiotic to say what he did (I think he does now).

I guess what I'm just as surprised about is people on here defending Spicer by saying "you need to look at the context though". There is not a context where what Spicer said has a legitimate point.

Well if he stuck to the point that Hitler and Assad are evil to the core of them he'd have done ok. And its rather splitting hairs on how you kill people.Murder is murder no matter how its accomplished. Syria agree to get rid of the gases,Russia was the guaranteer of that promise. Assad is starving the people, and thats murder too. Its pass time for him to go.

It doesn't take long for most sensible and aware people to realize that bringing Hitler into almost ANY conversation is usually a mistake that will likely come around to bite you in the nether regions.

IMHO, he was a poor choice for press secretary to begin with. The problem with replacing him now is the right will read it as a cave to the liberal media. I think that he should weather this mess, and resign in the late summer or at the beginning of the next fiscal year. The problem that President Trump has is a suitable replacement. I can't imagine anyone wanting the job.
Have you ever considered what that job entails? You have to not know as much as possible, yet are part of the inner circle not learning what the rest know, and then being able to spin what you do know in a way that never lets the cat out of the bag. All that and you have to be smart too!

That's harder to do than be a politician! At least they don't have to be smart too. lol

When I was young, I used to fear God would have me take a job I'd least want to take. To me, that was "missionary in Haiti." To this day, I'd rather clean up black gum off city sidewalks than take that job. And yet, I'd rather be a missionary in Haiti than be a press secretary.

I count his faux-pas no worse than the time Obama said he had been to 56 states so far, and had one more to go. Nothing more than an amusing moment on the spin cycle.

IF y'all are talking about the gas chambers the jews were herded into and killed, then, yes, he used chemical weapons......but, I am not aware of an instance where he used chemical weapons against jews/germans in the way Assad did......via a bomb.

In WWI, the Germans used mustard gas......but, that wasn't Hitler.......

It was a dumb statement........but not made with malicious intent on his part.......he apologized.........'nuff said

Oh but the litany of left wing comparisons of trump and Hitler is perfectly fine. Add fake outrage to go along with all the fake news.

Spicer probably meant Hitler didn't use them in the war theater. Either way, it's a screw up. But more attention was paid to this than the fact that Mr's Obama and Kerry told us there were no more chemical weapons in Syria thanks to their diplomatic efforts. Which is the bigger screw up?
Good point,I think he Is so focused on"make Donald Trump look good"that he wasn't really thinking,he was on automatic say anything"

Yes, you are right. There really isn't much of a comparison. But to err is human. Let's cut the man some slack.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. He recognised his error and apologized. Yes, it was insensitive and not well thought out, but who among us hasn't said something which we've regretted?
