OK so I don't have it completed yet but here's part one. I'm thinking that the way this plays out is it's this perfect world and the fairies are the only know species plus all the animals. They are like the caretakers of the earth. Then one fairy murders another and looses it's wings and powers becoming a human. More faries fall and more humans are created but this separated them from The Great Creator. The Great Creator then rescues the humans and Death (one of my main characters) plays a key role in this. Death is also very lonely and is looking for a wife. Thoughts?

Here is what I have so far:
Prologue
Before there were humans there were fairies and shadow creatures. When a fairy would die he or she would become a “soul”. Death was not anything like humans think of it today, it was merely a shedding of the physical and moving into a new dimension. Like how a caterpillar must change into a butterfly.

Chapter one

I waited outside of Death’s office as he ran interviews to fill the position for his wife. The spirit came out of his office wailing. I sighed. Another one bites the dust I thought; then I laughed to myself. “What are you laughing at?” Death asked coming out of his office.

I looked up at him and said, “Oh just something funny I thought.”

“Ah,” he said.

He stood there awkwardly almost as if he was waiting for me to say something. “So…what’s up?” I asked.

“I thought you said you wanted to talk to me after the interview,” he finally said, confused.

“Oh yeah! I did!” I replied.

I followed death into his office and sat in the leather chair opposite his desk. “So what is it?” he asked.

“Look,” I said leaning forward resting my elbows on my knees, “I think you are going about this whole bride thing the wrong way.”

“Is that so?” he asked.

“I know it is part of our culture as shadow creatures to be um…blunt but I don’t think this idea in particular is working,” I explained.

Death leaned back in his chair and rubbed his chin. “You may be right, but what else am I supposed to do? I was made to be a businessman! I keep track of when souls come in and all the logistics. I have to fill out paperwork and I’m in charge of making sure the after-life is a pleasant place. Ugh! This is all I have known! I want more!” he moaned.

"I know, I know," I said, "I just think you might want someone....not dead."

"I've interviewed the female shadow creatures. None of them seemed interested. I think they would have been uncomfortable dating their boss," he said.

I nodded. While Death and I were friends he was still my boss and there were some lines I dare not cross. So I could understand how it could be awkward for another shadow creature.

"What about that Kayla girl?" I asked.

"Her? Ppppfffft! She'd never want to marry me," Death sputtered.

"Don't sell yourself short boss," I said, "besides she's immortal."

"Besides she's immortal" he mimicked. "You know I hate immortals."

"I know but take some time to think on it," I said, "I think you two would be good together. I've only talked to her a few times but she seems nice enough."

Death was silent for what seemed like forever. He sat there with his chin propped on his hand thinking. "So you think the Lord of the Afterlife would do good with marrying the queen of the fairies?" He asked.

"Just think about it," I said as I stood up.

I walked out of Death's office and into the half-lit hallway. He could be so difficult sometimes.

I looked down at the darkened half of the hall and saw shadows going here and there. I waited for a break and stepped into the darkness, blending in with the shadows. I raced down the hall to the exit.

I stepped out of the shadows and returned to my physical form. Once outside I had to allow my eyes to adjust to the brightness of the Great Creator that radiated throughout the after-life. Even though I was a shadow creature I loved the warmth and love of The Great Creator.

Hey that's an idea! What if Death talked to the Great Creator? Surely he wouldn't be too busy! I'll mention it to him the next time I see him.
