(Written after the death of my husband of 23 years in a car accident in '95. He loved to hike the mountains of New Hampshire with his special hiking staff)
CLIFF DWELLER
You loved these mountains.
Higher and higher
You climbed
Into the clasp of clouds,
Grasping the smooth wood
Of your hiking staff
As Moses trekked
To his stone tablets
To be with your God
On ethereal summits.
