I wrote this a few years ago and just found it so I thought I'd post it here for others, a bit of a read...

Dear man,
God formed me here, out of a land he'd made for me
He said that I'd have everything I needed just to be
He told me life was living in everything I'd see
That the land would grow and plant seed after seed
that tides would bring me food
and food would bare it's own
that I was free to wander and roam
on the land I would call home
he made us all to keep company
a family to share love
to live off the land below
and skies above
by giving us the greatest gift
to reproduce our own
so generation after generation
we would never be alone

So why sir do you claim whats everyone's is yours?
Why do you put a price tag on things that are for all
why do you claim the fruit and the calf the land has born
why do you sell to me for price the fawn?
Who gave this to you to profit
from taking it from me?
Who said that you could sell the life
of the living things I see?

Why are children starving
when everything is theirs
Why is living costing us in
Blood sweat and tears?
Now I pay from labour
when I should be helping grow
the family that I have
and loved ones that I know
Now I see we cannot live free
A price will always be
So as the starving children die
and you put up your fee
As the stolen land depletes
and so the fishes of the sea
as we struggle to survive
and buy back the things we need
Remember this
In the end you were you and I was me!

When he asks why did you take from what he let just be,
When he asks why you sold what was not yours to sell
and why now the children fell, what is it you will tell?
Will you tell him of your greed
at the cost of humanity?
will you tell him of your status
and money matters?
Will you tell him how you watched your fellow people struggle
While trying to sustain a name as they sifted through the rubble?
Tell him of the love you gave
to only those you knew
and the helping hand you had
in lives of just a few
Tell him of the houses and the cars that you have gained
Tell him of the pain you feel when you see your cashmere stained
Thank him for the life you sold back to who he gave
Tell him of the land you banished us
from where we came
Tell him of your glory
of everything you made
How you wrote these rules for all the things that he creates
Tell him of your fame and thank him for success
Tell him how you tried your best perched behind your desk
How the rest were not so bright
& Why you are worth more
How you deserved a better life
because your better score
Or because the colour of your skin
or the place from which you came
Tell him why the weak departed
and you still remain

I wonder what it is he'll say, if he'll credit your success?
Or will he simply ask for what it was you tried your best?
Why you needed these possessions at other peoples cost
why you manufactured money to introduce loss
Why you put a price tag on things that were not yours
and sold the gifts that he has given back to who's it was
Why you make his people work when they were working free for all
why you took away their freedom so you could have it all

This is why there are prisons, poverty, disease
Why animals suffer and people starve as you bulldoze down trees
You cannot rule, what you do not own and none of it is yours
So why on earth should we be paying
for fruit that freely falls?
Mother Earth is dying now
because of all your greed
Thinking you're superior
you take more than you need
Or trying to find freedom
something you'll never have
'Cause all the riches in the world
couldn't offer that
Not after all this mess created
by greed and trying to reign
over a land thats living
Not intended for your gain...
