The gravel crackled beneath my feet, walking slowly to the cliff.
The wind unshackled blew the heat, moving quickly through the rift,
Rock skyscrapers spanned beyond, the scope of sight for miles on end.
Leafy papers did respond, as birds of prey all did ascend.
Standing on the world’s balcony, peering to the valley low
beholding my soul’s alchemy, the worst that evil could bestow

There I chanced to find a city, expanding through the valley floor.
All its citizens without pity, their offenses reached heaven’s door.
A strangely common similarity was possessed by all who dwelled
For it was the singularity of my sinful deeds they held
Many facsimiles of myself were actors on this cosmic stage
The epitome of my own soul’s wealth, was openly shown within this cage.

A metropolis of my sin it was, that filled the valley of my heart
What overwhelming shame because, all could see my inward parts
With eyes closed as if dead, my mind dared to ponder this
With these mournful words I said, standing on that precipice

What element is it that cleans the soul, removing this carnal blackened stain
gives its substance, shapes and molds, the hearts of men to be unfeigned?
Words of teachers, living of woes, that purges evil from existence
Heavenly creatures or things below that gives mere mortals there resistance?
Oh vile and wretched is this frame, that is infected with such guilt
For hell itself cursed the name, of foundations my deeds built

While entranced by my sorrow, a voice beyond the grave did speak
The goodness of another borrowed, would bring me salvation’s peak.
Repent and turn from all your past, all that was shall be made new
Freedom shall be yours at last, the love of God you must pursue.
Words of pleading left my throat, as tears of thanks did cascade
On tables of flesh there was a note, informing me my debt was paid.

But still of course was death’s dominion, covering all the valley floor
At this moment in my opinion, salvation was not yet restored
As if it knew what I was thinking, there came a shaking to the east
The rocky mountains began sinking, at a strange tsunami’s feast.
A giant wave, the fiercest flood, came crashing down the mountain slope
Foaming red, the stain of blood, it filled both floor and heart with hope
The dark crimson tide of gore, left no trace of house or tower
“All forgiven” at its core, resounded in its sweeping power.
Its contents carried by the stream, into a red forgetful sea
Moving swiftly gaining steam, down it flowed from Calvary
The valley now completely purged, all remnants of its evil gone
Three red rivers did now surge, eternal life its waters spawned.

Their names mercy, love and grace, still flow where once the city dwelled.
When sin’s construction shows its face, the river’s banks flood and swell
The valley’s floor then overflows and pours in that forgetful sea.
Like Noah’s rainbow always shows, my eyes now look to Calvary
For with his stripes we are all healed, upon his back our sins he bore
So new life could be revealed, and that transgression would be no more
Keep me close to Calvary’s flow, may his mercy never cease.
Now unrighteous souls may know, communion with the prince of peace
I pray his grace always abounds, transforming me by his own blood
As my sin forever drowns, dying beneath the crimson flood.
