(I wrote this when I was depressed and trying to figure out why people were the way they were.)

We live in a world with great influences
because of that we have differences
some positive
others negative
but the question is why?
will we know before we die?
or not question it and get "high"?

Emotions control our actions
our hearts and our thoughts make reactions
love and hate opens and closes our hearts
why cant we just control these parts?

Inside us all is truth
sometimes hard to see
mixed with emotions that bleed
why must we endure pain?
is it something to master like a game?

The heart is not meant to be played
but true actions and words to be displayed
our hearts know right from wrong
but deceived by the world we make it strong

hidden truths and hidden pains
we lied to our hearts with our brains

It is time to show our pure side
the truths never again put aside
do not lie to the heart
if u do, might as well be a dart
cuz lies only hurt in the end
you might also lose a great friend.

Our hearts never lie
its the lies told to it that makes us die
they say you can not do good without bad
because guilt shows that we are not "mad"
listen to your heart, for it will never deceive
if it does, its your mind that lied and made it believe.

Be true to yourself and others
for we are all sisters and brothers
we must act as our pure hearts
do not lie and live by written charts
but be sheltered in Gods light
it is written, it is His fight.

Poetry is meant to convey truth in a way that heightens the senses and moves the emotions. You certainly did that by choosing a topic of universal experience and describing its substance.
If you are looking for input on how to make your poetry more appealing and more polished, I'm sure there are many resources online to learn from.
