I saw the soft, wishful look in his eyes. His presence alone creating a mystical beauty. The atmosphere; filled with contempt, and woe. As he outshined this mask.He was brought down ever so violently to a miniscule pebble. Jumped by a group of thugs. Engaging in his near death. Losing, losing, lost.Beat with a rigid pipe; Broken bones.Trembling heart.Shattered mind. Falling apart. Losing his wife. His mind. His capability. Losing everything? For on that night he may resemble amere pebble. But forever on; a diamond. The thugs, ruthless, coldhearted. Leaving behind three things. His soul, his spirit and his love.I know now true happiness is not found in earthly exhilaration- but from the affection cast off your heart. He allowed you to dig deep, coming to realization of feelings unfathomable. In some ways; being a piece of Heaven. Believing in youso much. You wonder how you ever doubted? He is the once in a lifetime individual. Many see him as an average handicap. However; to me,an outstanding angel.

(And apologies for the lack of poem structure. I'm uploading this through my phone, and it won't paste correctly.)

This poem I dabbled together a few years back, it may not be one of my best, but it's the dearest to my heart. Several years ago my grandma had a stroke. I would go with her to her therapy classes, and in those classes were a mixture of incredible characters who had previously had brain injuries. Each one brought a smile to my face, each one filled with such unique personalities. And then there was one named Joey. Joey was unlike anyone I had ever met. He was in his early to middle forties, and his story was painful to the ears. He was a pizza delivery guy, and had just got off work. He was taking his paycheck, and heading to the bank to deposit it. Well, this was late at night, and as he was walking along the sidewalk, a group of thugs jumped him and beat him with pipes until he was entirely immobile. They stole his money, everything he had. Leaving him to die. After that, his wife left him because she couldn't handle his injuries, and his kids eventually stopped seeing him as well. Joey was all alone. But see, when I talked to Joey, he was like a being not from earth. He was THE nicest person you will ever meet, the happiest person you will ever meet. The kindest, the funniest. His laugh was contagious, like music to your ears. He never went a day without smiling. He was the type of person who would drop anything and everything, if you asked him for help. There was something truly special about him. He was unlike any human I had met. He seemed so pure, so bright. There was a glow about his appearance. When around Joey, the whole atmosphere was filled with peace, like nothing could go wrong. Honestly, I saw Joey as an angel. It's something unexplainable in words, only seen with the eyes, experienced in presence. When he spoke, it was more than with words. He spoke with his soul. Joey had a huge impact on the person I am today. He is the person who made me see the good in everything. The person who inspired me to live for others and rarely myself. I believe in my heart I met Joey for a reason. He was like my own personal super hero. Like a father figure, or uncle. Like a guardian Angel. As stated, Many see him as an average handicap,But to me he was truly an angel.

I think with how interesting and flowing it is, we can forgive the structure. :) Thank you for taking the time to share it, along with the back story (he sounds like quite a guy, and GOOD for him for maintaining such a good attitude).

The imagery and wording is fantastic, really paints a picture in one's mind. Loved it.
