I built a wall infront of me,
Each tear that fell turned to a brick.
I built it up immediately,
When I thought love was just a trick.
I kept myself concealed behind,
A fortress of my own fears.
I thought that not a soul would find
That I was drowning in my tears.
Each chance that came to set me free
Caused me to raise a higher wall.
Each knight I thought would rescue me
Climbed halfway up, and took a fall.
Not one could penetrate through it,
No hammer so big to bring it down.
Self-pity was an endless pit
That pulled me deeper into the ground.
To me, all human eyes were shut,
All blinded to the pain I felt,
No one could see how I'd been cut.
This stone-turned heart would never melt.
But Lo! one day an earthquake shook!
All trembled at Your Majesty!
You saw through it with just one Look
And broke it down to redeem me!!
You showed that Your love is secure
That it would never fail or end.
You washed me clean and made me pure,
My Jesus, loving, faithful Friend
