I thought I was ready for thanksgiving. This is my 2nd year being in charge of the whole meal (my dad usually does it but he's in the Philippines...and mama doesn't really cook). I prepared/chopped/measured everything in advance so that today all id have to do is throw everything together.

And then...we find out last minute that my brother's VEGAN girlfriend MIGHT be joining us. And not a single recipe I've prepared for today is vegan-friendly. So now I'm setting aside small portions of every side dish and vegan-izing them. Eliminating cream, butter, meat, etc. I don't have a main course for her...so I've assigned my brother to go buy some vegan ingredients (he better help, since it's his fault that all this is so last minute).

Gah! Ok. I GOT DIS. Operation show-love-to-the-vegan-girl is GO.

You are showing way more grace than I would in that situation. I would tell your brother that he is in charge of cooking for her or just serve her a rice cake or something...

kitchen remains clean despite little fix-it projects and some holiday cooking. :)

baked the sweet taters for casserole. :)

hope a "freezer roll" version of my braided mini-loafs turn out okay for celebration tomorrow.

steamed green beans, made an onion/mushroom cream sauce, cooked bacon for casserole. Putting in containers to mix together tomorrow when I celebrate with family and friends. :D

decided to risk the slow roast turkey thing since I have an out of town Nutcracker performance tomorrow. We shall see...

bathroom is now clean and "guest ready."

Off to Thanksgiving meal at church. :)

Today's tasks still not done: sweet potato casserole, bread making, living room cleaning, pumpkin pie making, apple pie making. Will do after meal....unless I nap instead.

Just got home from a long, happy day at my mom's house.
For some reason, my mom put me in charge of fixing a relish tray...all she had on hand for it was celery, tomatoes, and dill pickle slices. She said "Get creative! Make it pretty. You've got this."
So a while later, I set out a plate that had a pickle mouth, tomato eyes, and celery hair. My brother named it Filbert.

Nobody ate any of it because it was staring at them.

Anyway...I hope today has been good for y'all. Happy Thanksgiving :)

Thanksgiving thanks:

Grandma's biopsy came back negative (yay this dramatically increases my chances of seeing grandma again). I think I recruited a new helper at our young adult thanksgiving social (double yay and an answer to prayer). She'll be coming over tomorrow morning. Oh and I got a piece of a real actual pumpkin pie for thanksgiving :):) And then I was able to use gmail to call my aunt's house and say hi happy thanksgiving to everyone. Yeah I guess that counts as a good thanksgiving. My American friends have invited me over for a proper thanksgiving tonight so I'll get my turkey and stuff too.

I'm spending today alone..just me and the cat.. while my parents and sister go out to dinner for Thanksgiving..my mom's excuse for not asking me to go also: "I know you don't like going out to eat so I didn't ask you." :/... fortunately I prefer to be alone anyway so it's all good, but STILL, it would've been nice to be asked to go, even if i did turn down the invite.. oh well, such is life.. #NOT the end of the world :)

i'm really sorry to hear that. it can be really tough going through the holidays on our own, especially when you've got hurts from family. i'm glad you've got your cat. : )

Remember boys, it was all about thankfulness today, but the massacre starts again in about a month when it's all peace on earth....

I've never understood the whole idea of inviting someone to something, even if you know they're not coming. For example, I have a friend who, some years ago, got upset with me for not inviting her to my birthday celebration. This confused me to no-end because, prior to this she had told me she'd be away that weekend and I knew this. Why invite someone to something when you and they both know they can't make it?

So Thanksgiving recap:
Work went well, we were understaffed as usual but we made it work.
Two agency people left early and the other randomly left.

And I felt bad because I didn't have time to get everything done the way I wanted to...buuuuut, I had a couple of laughs, good food and made some slick parfaits. Sooo. Yeah :D

Insights:
Sometimes it's good to realize how influential we are in the different arena's of our lives. and realize how SOVEIRGN God is!
I'm not kidding, he is absolutely 100% sovereign all the time. As I heard the other day, I remember them talking on the radio on a Christian radio program and they said "God works the night shift." And that is completely true. So no worry should be taken when things are crazy, because in all reality God is working on something bigger, that we can't see.

ANYWHO.
Also. Submission to God's will. As much as we say "Gah I'd rather do it my way." Can we honestly say we know what the heck's going on in the first place? The answer is no.
And I feel that the more I say "No God, that's crazy why do you want me to do this," and then get all annoyed and something amazing comes out of it! I really limit his power. truly. So. I am going to work on that whole surrender thing some more. I want more conversations to come up about God, I want to really dive in deep with these people.
I want people to say the amazingness of the Lord.

God is 203r8294u2% in control.
I feel like Moses parting the red sea sometimes with God's power in my life.

But yeah. That's da troof.
:D

I think that's from your shoes, lil. Is it a size smaller? I feel sorry for you. Please get a bigger size of shoes. :(

Yea. When it comes to work shoes, go big and cushiony. Your feet naturally swell a bit after standing/walking for a long time. Sorry your feet hurt, Lil.

Well, around here it certainly would be unheard of not inviting a person even if you knew that the person wouldn't be able to come...and the gossiping....oh dear...make sure she's invited next time you're throwing a party;).

Well, yes. Obviously I learned my lesson. But I have to say I was very confused for quite some time.

I've never really been one for crowds & the whole gray Thursday and black Friday thing.... But I got some pretty sweet deals within the last 12 hours...

I might have to check out the whole cyber Monday thing this year, too...

Well, I couldn't him expect to help that much. He actually had to work most of the day, so instead of a big lunch together we pushed our big meal back to 6:00. He works as a cashier at a grocery store so that's why I told him to come home with food :p

As an update, he texted me around 1:00 saying that she had other plans and wasn't coming. So I began going about my preparation as normal. Then, just before 5:00, he calls saying that she IS coming! The timing was a miracle because I was just moments away from adding the non-vegan ingredients to the rest of the side dishes. I managed to set aside portions for her before adding the non-vegan ingredients, but there was no time to do anything for a main course so I told my brother he'd need to handle it. He came home with his girlfriend and some raw broccoli. xD

I did the best I could under the circumstances, and I hope she felt welcomed and blessed.
