Do you take naps? Do you hate napping? Do you live for nap time? Do you doze for a few minutes and call it good, or sleep for hours in the middle of the day?

I know lots of you are too busy for naps. But when you have time...is it nap time?

It's that time here. Little kids are a good excuse to have a nap, if they'll both sleep at the same time. Like they are now.

I wonder if this will be a refreshing nap, or the kind that I wake up from thinking it's tomorrow? We shall see...g'night.

MissCris, I love nap time!! :) In fact, I just got up from one after sleeping for about an hour or so. I usually only take them when I'm tired, but there are days when I just lay down for a 2-3 hour nap. My kitty usually always jumps up on the bed and lays down and takes a snooze with me too. :)

i love naps in concept.

unfortunately, whenever i do try that, IF i fall asleep, i wake up completely groggy and never really completely wake up. regardless of the length of said nap. i also have enough trouble sleeping as it is, so potentially adding to my insomnia issues isn't really something i am keen on.

the only time i nap (and sleep) is when i'm sick.

however, i'll fully cop to the fact that on a cozy afternoon, i'll climb into bed with my kindle under the guise of "taking a nap", and, really it's just me wanting to get under the covers with a good read.

if i am really tired, i usually decide that it's a good time for me to go hang upside down on my inversion rack, jump rope, take a few swings at "tank" (my sandbag), or do something active. because that always energizes me.

I nap everyday after work. I don't set my alarm and just naturally wake up. They are between 1-7 hours long. On weekends, I often need an afternoon nap, I feel weak and out of energy if I don't. All caused by the side effects of my medication.

Cristen,

I am much too young and energetic to take time for something as frivolous as a nnnnaaaaa..... (zonk.) D'OH! Caught, again!

(Truthfully, I am very much an insomniac, unfortunately, and have a hard time falling asleep at any time of the day or night. I would love to take naps, but just wind up tossing and turning, even though I still feel like I'm in a zombie-like state.)

I hardly take naps during any time of the day. I like to be outside doing productive things, so no nap time for me.

Because I already have troubles sleeping at night, I don't take naps throughout the day most of the time. There are those few times where I'll have a nap two or three days in a row, but that's usually when I'm absolutely exhausted or not feeling well.

I love curling up in bed when I'm really tired, and dozing for a while. If I can wake back up in 20 minutes or so, and actually get up, it's perfect. If I fall into deep sleep, it's usually 2-3 hours long and I never fully recover. I may take a nap once a week or so. More often when I'm reading, because reading often puts me into a "oh-my-goodness-my-eyes-won't-stay-open" condition that can only be cured by a good doze.

I nap sometimes, most of the time it's not intentional, I sit down for a bit and nod off doesn't last long though. I think the world would be better if we all took a break now and then.

The nap I took today was of the "I don't know what day it is" variety. Plus, I woke up to a small child trying to eat my phone.

Now I can't sleep...which means I'll be super tired tomorrow and need to take a nap...

Does anyone know if it you actually should not feel tired in the morning? If that's the goal? Or will you always feel tired after a night of sleep, and that's just the way things are for humans? I wonder if that is the goal and you never feel tired in the morning, if you would not need a nap during the day. What do you guys think?

You might want to research "sleep cycles". Apparently we go through cycles (lasting 90-120 minutes) as we sleep, and if you wake up in the middle of a cycle, you'll be more groggy and disoriented, and more tired, than if you woke up inbetween cycles. So sleeping only a few hours but waking up between cycles actually can make you feel more rested than if you slept a lot longer but woke up in between cycles. This is why sometimes, when you've gone to bed really late and then woken up really early, you actually wake more alert than if you'd slept 8 solid hours. You can experiment with different amounts of sleep and see what helps you most.
