You might want to research "sleep cycles". Apparently we go through cycles (lasting 90-120 minutes) as we sleep, and if you wake up in the middle of a cycle, you'll be more groggy and disoriented, and more tired, than if you woke up inbetween cycles. So sleeping only a few hours but waking up between cycles actually can make you feel more rested than if you slept a lot longer but woke up in between cycles. This is why sometimes, when you've gone to bed really late and then woken up really early, you actually wake more alert than if you'd slept 8 solid hours. You can experiment with different amounts of sleep and see what helps you most.

Does anyone know if it you actually should not feel tired in the morning? If that's the goal? Or will you always feel tired after a night of sleep, and that's just the way things are for humans? I wonder if that is the goal and you never feel tired in the morning, if you would not need a nap during the day. What do you guys think?

If you've slept long enough to enter rem sleep and have gotten enough sleep to be rested, what's potentially making you tired is waking up during a rem cycle. They last about 3 hours and on edges of them your brain will potentially be less groggy, wake up during and your brain was been pulled out of deep sleep. I guess if you could set an alarm and sleep on command you might be able to ensure when you wake during your rem cycle.
You said you were on medication too, might be that those also have something to do with it; but with sleep there are so many variables it becomes a long game of identifying factors and changeing what can be changed. Diet, exercise, relationships, emotions, everything comes into play with your unconscious mind.
The brain is awesome and annoying, Still a physical thing that can be trained, but way complex and with no manual. I know, rude right? :)

There's actually a website (that I think might be a phone app as well) where you put in the time you want to wake up and it tells you options of when to go to bed so you don't interrupt a cycle when you aren't supposed to.

I tried it for a few days, and I'm not sure if it was a placebo effect or not, but it did seem to help me wake up more refreshed in the mornings.
