Thats why its called the Book of Ruth and not the Book of Boaz.

But yea, I suppose theres no great harm in marrying your rich relative. Everyone should have a wealthy benefactor when facing starvation....

They could have just called it the Book of Christ to make it obvious right? Or Da Jesus Book, which is what some pidgin editions are called...

Because the whole Bible is ultimately about Christ. If you miss that you may as well read a good book. There are more captivating stories from a secular perspective.
God is busy glorifying Himself. Anyone else mentioned serves this purpose. Where Jesus is lifted up, men are drawn.

Jesus great great great great great great great great great grandmother was Ruth but that doesnt mean her book was just all about Jesus.

You put the cart before the horse, like a lot of calvinists do....

How about reading the Bible in order...?

I'm not a Calvinist. And who doesn't know that the Bible is about Christ? In the OT concealed; in the NT revealed. If one doesn't understand how each book of the Bible reveals something of an understanding of Jesus, they have missed the point of the book.

The Bible is about Gods relationship with man.

Obviously the Jewish people didnt know it was about Christ (or the Messiah) until the last Book of Revelation, but some only read the Tanakh and they do not even have the New Testament.

So sure you can read the Jesus Storybook Bible if you want, but most people at the time would just read one book at a time. The Bible is a collection 66 books written by many people at various points in time, If you dont understand the context of it, you miss the point as well.

Lots of people dont know the about the Bible. You'd be surprised, dont assume that many people actually know what it is. Especially children.

Dear children, tell me, what is the Book of Ruth about...?

Ruth, her sister Orpah and her Mother in law Naomi were starving and all their husbands died in the famine.....so they had to find new husbands who would feed them...Boaz owned a huge barley field and he was *gasp* single...and rich! So Naomi, saw the opportunity but as she was too old to marry and bear children, she got Ruth to marry Boaz by tricking him into waking up with her in the barn.
btw Orpah didnt want to go with Naomi and went back to her homeland rather than be in on this husband hunting mission.

Jesus Himself says all the Bible is about Him...John 5:39. And while it is true that God gradually made Himself known throughout the Bible, Jesus also said that Abraham saw His day and it was cause for rejoicing.
I didn't take the time to share because I'm argumentative or feel I'm somehow so spiritually endowed. As entertaining as some of the OT is, to miss Christ is to miss it's ultimate purpose.
Grace and peace.

Dear God, what is the book of Ruth about?

It's about a family that went through difficulties and rather than turn to God for help and pray, decided to leave the land that God had given them and look to the world for care. Leaving God's design and presence, they lost Gods provision and protection and suffered death.
But God is merciful and brings Naomi back to Himself and also displays His mercy to a gentile woman prefiguring His plan to one day go to all the world.
Next He introduces who will minister His grace and how. In Boaz we find a type of Christ who redeems his helpless people because He has chosen to set His affections upon them. He does so according to the law just as Jesus kept the law for us.
That should at least get you started. The story isn't merely for children. It's a picture of God's great love and provision.

I think rich men have the power (and money) to redeem poor women (if you can find one) and then there was all that business about a shoe. He was going to offer Ruth to another guy first who had more money right?

That is there to show that Boaz alone could redeem. Just like Christ.

Well the Jews did miss Jesus even when he was standing right in front of them...Mary mistook Jesus for the gardener lol

They had to have their eyes opened but even then...they were blinded...Jesus said blessed are those who have not seen and believed...that shows great faith

Ruths faith was that she gave up her homeland to go to Naomis and die there, she trusted and was willing to go wherever Naomi went. God was merciful to her.

Which just verifies that Romans 8:28 is true.
