I think as long as you're modest, I think it's fine to wear whatever. This goes for men and women. While we need to take responsibility for our own thoughts and actions, we also need to be aware that how we dress does affect other people, whether we want it to or not. This goes for more than just at church, as well.

I think it's interesting how Sunday morning worship is typically more "dress up/formal" than, say, Sunday night service, Wednesday night service, or any other time. I wonder what makes it different. At least, that's how it's been at the churches I've been to.
thing is for me. I don't do dress up/formal.

No dress code at our church. Even the Pastor wears jeans.

Growing up I was required by my mom to wear a dress to church, but not always by the church, itself.

Although my church does not have any type of dress code (there are folks dressed casual (jeans/t-shirts) and dressy (suit/tie or dress) and everything in between), I personally think it's best to look our best when going to the Lord's house to worship Him. That is not to say that we don't worship Him in everyday things, but when we're together, worshipping corporately, let's give God our best. Same thing about music -- why would we sing sub-standard music when worshipping God? Let's not do anything sub-standard and give God our best!

My church does not have any dress code, but modesty is obviously the unwritten/unspoken expectation for all members.

This thread makes the term "dress to impress" come to mind. I like to approach my wardrobe (for every day but especially Sunday worship) with a "dress to honor" mentality. I want to honor God, and my brother and sisters in Christ. For me personally this means clean, presentable, and modest. Looking pretty is totally fine, but I try to avoid outfits that are too showy or draw too much attention.

There isn't a dress code in my church. My pastor does try to remind us that it is the house of the
Lord and that we should dress modestly. Why should we look better for a date that doesn't mean
as much to us, than we would for our Lord and Savior?

That's a good point..never heard a pastor say that before.

That isn't exactly a quote of his words but it is a knock off of what he tries to get across to
us and remind us of the importance of our relationship with God.

I had this whole big thing to say about the nudists, but then decided that I should probably keep my thoughts to myself.

Occasionally I have a decent filter.

Chrissy, I get what your Pastor is trying to convey. I sometimes wonder if our casualness about some things has caused us to lose respect for the house and other things of God. The most important thing is that people feel welcome no matter what they wear, but I do think it is important to remember where we are and that it is a holy place.

I completely agree, Jullianna!!
That is one of the things he reminds us. He tells us that there will be people
who come into our church who will be dressed inappropriately and we will have
to look away from that and into their heart at their desire for God.
