Am having trouble understanding the concept of free will and Gods will and if prayer can change the free will of a person ?
As i have just been Divorced and wonder how God works in this situation when i pray about it .
Was praying when i became seperated and Gods done Huge changes in me life and the type of person i am now .Mainly hes taught me how to be a Mighty Man of God and what Love is and how to Love .He also gave me the conviction of the passage Why God joins together let no man seperate . But i find i still have been divorced and feel i must accept the fact even though i am praying for reconcilation .Am i praying for the wrong things or and does free will affect my prayers ?
Please let me know your thoughts on this as its some thing i am confused about and i feel the enemy using it to put doubt into my heart with my Marrage and what Gods Plan is for this .

Well, I believe Adam lost free will for all of mankind, but that's a whole different discussion.

God tells us in Matthew 6 how we are to pray. The prayer is for forgiveness of ourselves and others and for God's will to be done (6:9-10):

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Does that mean that you shouldn't share your desires with God? Certainly not, but it DOES mean that after you share your own desires, you come to God with an earnest desire for His will to be accomplished, no matter what. That submission is what God expects from His children. Look even at Christ who submitted far greater than we will likely ever have to.

Remember, in the end, man's will is foolishness to God. His will is perfect.

The Holy Spirit can do amazing works in the lives of others, so it is most certainly always good to pray about a thing, especially a marriage, a very holy thing.

May God give you peace, wisdom and healing in your situation.

My free will always get me into trouble ,,,,, no matter what i try or do it back fires on me ,,,,now going down Gods road for life works well and i'm happy in that ,,,so for me my own free will is so often a bad thing lol lol

Heres how i see it :--- as i'm still alive the frist thing God saved me from is me !!!!!
yes he saved me from hell ,,,but saving me from me is just stunning ,,,,, for me God saved me from my own free will and that make me very very happy

No, God will not force His will on another person. Prayer is not a wish list of things we want and God just grants them. Prayer is, for one thing, an appeal to God to work a situation out. And if that situation involves a person, that persons free will remains intact. That's not to say God can't try to influence and appeal to that person, try to scoot them, so to speak, in the right direction. But God will not make them change. If He were going to do that, then He would do that with every person on earth by forcing them to accept Him. Yet He doesn't do that.
I've known people that prayed as much as 20 years for a persons salvation before seeing it happen. It can take a lot of move a persons heart towards God sometimes.

It's an age old argument. Conclusion: we do not understand because we do not have Gods mind. The argument at its core is Free will versus Predestination. The fact is, the bible teaches both, an somehow somewhere in Gods overwhelming wisdom, they do make sense together.

We have the freedom to choose between good and evil but prayer can help us choose good over evil. However, there was a thought that came to mind while reading your post, and it has to do with praying and acting on the things we pray for. If you want reconciliation, make sure you take the necessary steps towards that goal alongside with praying for it. God bless!
