Hey Everyone,

We all know that coffee is an almost essential part of most people's morning routines.

But with lawsuits being filed over things like energy drinks and Panera Bread's "Supercharged Lemonade," I'd like to start a conversation about caffeine in general, no matter how people choose to intake it (coffee, tea, soft drinks, health supplements, chocolate, etc.)

I'm someone who seems to be extra sensitive to caffeine and probably should just go without it. But like most people, I've fallen pray to that steaming cup o' Joe that seems to beckon me every morning (and decaf just isn't the same!) And so I've been trying my best to limit myself to just one cup per day (while trying not to cheat by using my 16 oz. purple Minion coffee mug!)

I've also noticed that I seem to be much more prone to rogue snacking throughout the day when I've had caffeine, and have always wondered if I'd drop a few pounds if I could just kick it for good.

How about you?

* How much coffee, tea, soda (caffeinated drinks) caffeinated foods do you usually have in a day/week?

* Do you find caffeine to be a necessity? Or can you easily go without it on any given day?

* Does caffeine affect your health? Do you have problems with jitters, withdrawal headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure?

* What do you do to to control your caffeine intake (if at all,) and have you noticed a difference?

* What age do you think is appropriate for someone to drink coffee everyday? Or does it not matter, because some kids drink colas/soft drinks on a regular basis?

With caffeine being such an integrated part of our lives, I'm interested in hearing how it affects others and if you see it as a harm or a helper.
I mostly do not drink caffeinated coffee because my digestive system doesn't take it well anymore. I drink decaf because I like activity of drinking coffee. I'll drink a certain tea or decaf and then get tired of it. Sometimes I just drink hot water.

In the past at work, I was an incessant drinker of cafe mochas or straight coffee. I'd get a strong desire to keep getting more. I suppose it was a stimulant for me. After a few days of stopping, I really didn't miss it, especially if I was distracting myself with whatever. I noticed I most wanted it... more that is... after I already had some.

It wasn't really a problem except the digestive issue, and wanting more was sometimes mildly annoying.

My understanding of the research is it doesn't cause disease, except for one finding that in postmenopausal women, high caffeine consumption can accelerate bone loss. So, it's not a problem unless it's a problem. lol

Also, for people with anxiety issues, it can increase anxiety. Not a big surprise there. It can disrupt sleep, it's a diuretic of course, so can cause dehydration.

Tea....
A lot more variety of tea than coffee.

And tea can get VERY expensive in a hurry per pound. But it requires much less tea (by weight) than coffee to brew a pot.

I like certain Indian teas and high elevation Asian tea....some are nor even brown or green. Some are pink or blue....kinda wild when you think about it.

That Darjeeling stuff is alright with me.

I can drink coffee all day (and night) long. Throw in some nicotine and I’m on a roll. Add some bourbon we have a party! 🎉

Throw in some vodka Kahlua and half and half and I'm there

Coffee is very Christian. Haven’t you heard of church coffee?😁
Chonda Pierce (Christian comedian) calls it her "Pentecostal sippin' whiskey."

yes there is church coffee, like they advertise coffee churches on the side of the road to lure sleepy sunday drivers in.
The signs say 'free coffee' instead of 'free salvation' because people want coffee more than they want salvation. Coffee will keep drivers awake and from crashing into each other and not dying in horrible car accidents is the logic.

However there seems to be a catch, you can only drink the church coffee AFTER the 2 hour sermon/rock concert.

Myself am not a coffee person and get grumpy when coffee addicts call me up wanting to go out for coffee.
They just want to use their coffee cards that you buy 9 and get the tenth coffee free.

I always wondered why they dont have that for alcohol as well buy 9 drinks get the tenth free its an obvious ploy to rack up sales. Then I have to endure coffee conversation which pretty much goes like this

I cant wait for my next coffee, can you. Ive had too many coffees now and should really cut back, but hey lets go out for another coffee sometime!

She's not pentecostal. I'm pretty sure she's Baptist.

Poor baptists, having to swipe Pentecostal euphemisms...

My parents owned a coffee shop for many years when I was growing up and only served Maxwell House... fifty years later, I am still drinking a pot every day. My creamers and sweeteners have changed (I drink it light and sweet) but the coffee remains the same. :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee:
